DUI Arrest

Police report that after receiving a call about 12:18 am on December 11 concerning a motor vehicle accident that occurred near 1 South Main Street, they went to the area to investigate.

Police said they charged motorist Alexanna Lea Jacobsen, 23, of Newtown, with driving under the influence, traveling too fast for conditions, driving a motor vehicle while using a handheld electronic device, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Following processing, police released Jacobsen on $100 bail for a December 27 court appearance.

Multiple Impacts

About 5:10 am on December 8, motorist Kristen Lewis, 22, of Danbury, was driving a 2013 Nissan Altima auto eastward on Interstate 84, west of Exit 10, when she veered leftward and drove onto the highway’s median, after which she steered back across the travel lanes of eastbound I-84 and struck some guardrailing along the right road shoulder, then drove back across the eastbound lanes and entered the median again, striking an embankment and coming to rest partially on the left lane of the highway and the median, according to state police.

There were no injuries. State police verbally warned Lewis for failure to maintain the proper travel lane.

Multiple Charges

Newtown police said that Bethel police alerted them at about 10:54 pm on December 7 that there was a motorist driving erratically on Route 302 in Dodgingtown and heading toward the center of Newtown.

Newtown police found the vehicle in question and then stopped it to investigate. Police said they charged motorist Manuel Villavicencio Asuncion, 53, of Danbury, with driving under the influence, unsafe movement of a stopped vehicle, violating a driver’s license classification, and violating a travel lane restriction.

Police said that after arrest processing, Asuncion posted $100 bail for a December 18 court appearance on the four charges. Also, Asuncion was arrested on a warrant on a charge of second-degree failure to appear in court in connection with a 2018 case involving a charge of driving under the influence.

Two Charges

State police report that about 3:13 pm on December 7, they stopped motorist Jason Pallas, 49, of New Milford, for driving more than 85 miles per hour in a 65-mph zone on eastbound Interstate 84, near Exit 9, after which Pallas falsely identified himself to them.

State police arrested Pallas on charges of interfering with police and driving with a suspended license. Pallas was released on $1,000 surety bail for a December 18 arraignment on the charges in Connecticut Superior Court in Danbury.

South Main Crash

A two-vehicle accident occurred in front of Waterfall Plaza at 255 South Main Street, about 1:10 pm on December 6.

In that incident, motorist Joseph Muller, 25, of Brookfield, who was driving a 2005 Subaru Outback station wagon southward, stopped, and was struck from behind by southbound motorist Fallon Torreso, 18, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2001 Subaru Legacy sedan, police said.

There were no injuries. Torreso received a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Audi Vs Pole

Police report that at about 11:48 pm on December 6, motorist Henry Erickson, 30, of Sandy Hook, was driving a 1996 Audi A-4 sedan and then lost control of the vehicle while turning from Great Ring Road onto High Rock Road, after which the auto struck a utility pole, snapping it into two pieces.

There were no injuries. Police gave Erickson an infraction for traveling too fast.

Sugar/Elm Collision

Police report a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Sugar Street and Elm Drive about 4:09 pm on December 5.

The accident involved motorist Leona Rzezniczek, 67, of Newtown, who was driving a 2012 Toyota Corolla sedan, and motorist Rachel Cameros, 19, of Newtown, who was driving a 2012 Nissan versa auto. There were no injuries. Cameros was verbally warned for passing in a no-passing lane.

I-84 Sideswipe

State police report a sideswipe accident on westbound Interstate 84, about 3,000 feet east of Exit 9, in an area where a climbing lane ends, at about 11:07 am on December 4.

As the climbing lane ended, motorist Thomas Walker, 56, of Woodbury, who was driving a 2018 GMC Sierra pickup truck, attempted to merge to the left, but struck a 2019 Allegro camper driven by James Marko, 70, of Adams, Mass.

There were no injuries. Walker received an infraction for failure to maintain the proper lane.

Intersection Crash

About 4:22 pm on December 4, motorist James Galvin, 24, of Woodbury, who was driving a 2008 Ford F-250 pickup truck southward on South Main Street, stopped and was waiting to make a left turn onto Mile Hill Road, when Rosangela Bertier, 53, of Prospect, who was driving a 2013 Honda Pilot SUV, exited nearby Country Club Road and struck the Ford, police said.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Bertier for making a restricted turn.

Three Vehicles

A three-vehicle collision happened at the southern intersection of South Main Street and Pecks Lane about 4:48 pm on December 4.

In that incident, motorist Sean Donnelly, 24, of Newtown, who was driving a 2011 Dodge Charger, stopped on southbound South Main Street at the intersection, after which southbound motorist Keith Shaw, 22, Bridgeport, who was driving a 2010 Toyota Corolla, stopped behind the Dodge, police said.

Southbound motorist Jessica Natera, 43, of Fairfield, who was driving a 2001 Nissan Altima auto, then struck the rear end of the Toyota, pushing the Toyota into the rear end of the Dodge.

There were no injuries. Natera received an infraction for following too closely.

Head-On Crash

Police report that a two-vehicle head-on crash occurred about 2:37 pm on December 3, near 151 Mt Pleasant Road.

The incident involved motorist Douglas Knittel, 55, of Brookfield, who was driving a 2011 Jeep Patriot SUV, and Holly Patrick, 61, of Southbury, who was driving a 1996 Jeep Cherokee SUV. The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Knittel to Danbury Hospital. Hawleyville and Hook & Ladder volunteer firefighters went to the incident. The accident is under investigation.

South Main Spinout

Police report a one-vehicle accident on South Main Street, near its intersection with Kay Lane, about 2:08 pm on December 1.

Motorist Tucker Hauck, 17, of Newtown, was driving a 2003 Dodge Ram pickup truck southward on the snowy, slippery pavement, after which the vehicle went into a skid and spun about, traveling off the left road shoulder and down an embankment, rolling onto it side, according to police.

Hauck received suspected minor injuries. Hauck received an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions.

Slippery Street

Motorist Y.A. Moran-Rodriguez, 23, of Naugatuck, who was driving a 2004 Honda CR-V SUV westward on Berkshire Road, near Sherman Street, skidded on the snowy road surface about 2:26 pm on December 1, after which the Honda traveled off the left road shoulder and came to rest on an embankment, receiving a flat tire in the process, police said.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned the driver for traveling too fast for conditions and also issued her an infraction for driving without a license.

Rear-Ender

At about 4:42 pm on November 29, motorist Joanna Augustine, 70, of Bethel, who was driving a 2005 Jeep Liberty SUV southward on South Main Street, stopped in preparing to make a left turn into the parking lot at Highland Plaza at 123 South Main Street, after which the Jeep was struck from behind by a southbound 2019 Honda CR-V SUV driven by Susan Morse, 69, of Newtown, police report.

The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Morse to Danbury Hospital. Morse was verbally warned for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart resulting in an auto accident.
