Department of Education Commissioner Miguel Cardona, Department of Public Health Acting Commissioner Diedre Gifford or their agency representative, and other experts have been invited to an Informational Forum on Connecticut COVID-19 Education Policy, moderated by Senator Tony Hwang.

The forum will take place virtually at fb.com/senatorhwang, Tuesday, December 22, at 4 pm.

Senator Hwang has reached out to the Departments of Education and Public Health to ask for updated metrics or guidelines so local school districts can make consistent decisions as to whether they will offer in person or remote learning.

Currently each town, or school district, can choose their learning models based on differing threshold standards. The variances have created an untenable and unpredictable environment for students, parents, teachers and local administrators. There is an infinite mix of scenarios that can change daily, leaving students and parents on high alert, suspecting that any school call or e-mail could be the one that alters their family’s study/work/life balance.

The info forum will be viewable on FB Live, recorded and shared with Governor Lamont, CTSDE, DPH and media.

Feel free to e-mail questions in advance of the meeting with your name, school system, and contact information to Tony.Hwang@cga.ct.gov.

This meeting will be recorded and subject to state freedom of information (FOI) guidelines.

Senator Tony Hwang will moderate a FB Live forum on December 22, at 4 pm.
