Manhattan String Quartet To Play Benefit Concert At WCSU

DANBURY — WestConn Hearts Haiti, a campaign created by Western Connecticut State University to raise funds in support of the rebuilding effort in Haiti, will host a benefit concert on Wednesday, April 21. The world-renowned Manhattan String Quartet (MSQ) will perform at 7 pm in Alumni Hall, 181 White Street.

The concert will be open to the public, and there is a suggested donation of $20.

Featured on the program will be Schubert’s String Quartet No. 14, “one of the grandest pieces for string quartet in the literature,” according to MSQ violinist and WCSU Professor of Music Eric Lewis. The performance of this single composition is expected to last almost 45 minutes.

Dr Lewis said the MSQ was honored to be asked to play the benefit concert.

“We all need to help in our own way the victims of this immense catastrophic event,” he said.
