Council Profiles, EDWIN DUDECK

Edwin Dudeck, Democratic candidate for the council in District 1, has a saying

he considers when financial matters are at hand: "Are our wants greater than

our needs?" He has lived in town 29 years, and has a clear stand on the

capital projects still under consideration.

"Education is important. The high school is 25 years old. It has to be

repaired but we don't have to go overboard with a lot of frills," says the

candidate. He is concerned that the cost estimates have varied between $18 and

$28 million.

"Obviously we have to do the sewers and maintain the roads. I don't think we

should bond each year for the roads -that should be part of the annual

budget."

Town Hall South does need some improvements, he says, and "we just have to

bite the bullet because the building has to be maintained... We have to do

something, but we shouldn't go overboard."

He said it could be very expensive to repair the buildings at Fairfield Hills

if they wanted to be used as school facilities, "so this suggestion should be

evaluated closely."

As a retiree, the candidate says he has unlimited time to contribute to the

council. He currently is serving on the Lake Lillinonah Authority.

Mr Dudeck feels the Planning and Zoning Commission should resolve the issue of

whether or not to re-zone areas of Hawleyville as commercial/industrial

property. "Then it becomes a question for the council to look at," he says.
