Occupation: I’m a part-time reference librarian at C.H. Booth Library. I interned there from January to July, when I was doing my library science master’s through the Pratt Institute in Manhattan, and then they offered me a position.

Family: I live in Newtown with my husband, Phil. We’ve been married for four years. My parents live in upstate New York, and I have a sister in Oregon.

Pets: We have two cats, Bo, a tuxedo cat, and Daisy, and orange tabby. Daisy was adopted when a friend moved to England, and Bo came to us as a stray.

How long have you lived in Newtown? I’ve lived here almost seven years. I moved from Somers, N.Y., and my husband came here from the Waterbury area.

What do you like to do in your free time? I love to spend time with my husband, family, and friends. I love to read, hike, and go to the gym. I’m a big fan of Nintendo Wii games, especially the Wii “Sports Resort.”

Do you have a favorite book? John Steinbeck is my favorite author, and my favorite book by him is East of Eden. I find the characters to be rich and full, and I like the tension he creates between the forces of good and evil.

Do you have a favorite travel destination? Western Europe, but specifically, Italy. We went to Tuscany for our honeymoon and I’ve been longing to go back. The beautiful scenery, and the amazing wines and food are to die for.

What is the best thing about Newtown? I would say the friendly and generous nature of the people here. Right after I moved here, something happened to me that drove that home. I was out running and got caught in a rainstorm. Three different women stopped their cars and asked if I wanted a ride home. I’d never experienced that kind of trusting and helpful nature.

Do you have a hero or heroine? I really admire Nelson Mandela, a lot. His courageous activism and lifelong struggle against inequality are very inspiring, to me.

Do you have a personal philosophy? I truly believe that laughter is the best medicine. I try not to take myself too seriously.

What makes you happy? Spending time with friends and family, reading a good book, or going on vacation to an international destination. And last, but not least, playing with the cats!
