Boomers’ Talk Focuses On Skin Cancer

TRUMBULL — The sun is shining and warm weather is on the way. That means getting out in the sun, which can expose individuals to heightened risk for skin cancer.

St Vincent’s Medical Center of Bridgeport is sponsoring a free talk open to the general public on “Skin Cancer Signs, Symptoms and Treatment Options” as part of its Listen & Learn Lecture Series for Baby Boomers. The talk will take place Tuesday, May 1, from 6:30 to 7:30 pm, at the Trumbull Marriott.

Featured speaker Robert Patrignelli, MD, will provide tips on protecting one’s skin, the signs and symptoms of skin cancer, and go over the latest advances in treatment options. Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer; approximately one million Americans are diagnosed with it each year.

The most common symptoms of skin cancer include sores or changes in the skin that do not heal, ulcers in the skin, discoloration, and changes in existing moles.

Dr Patrignelli serves on active staff at St Vincent’s Medical Center and operates an adult and pediatric dermatology practice in Trumbull, where he specializes in dermatologic surgery, cosmetic dermatology, Botox, collagen, laser facial rejuvenation, skin cancer screenings and treatment, chemical peels, laser hair removal, and the treatment of acne, eczema, sun damage, and psoriasis.

A graduate of Fairfield University, Dr Patrignelli graduated from Georgetown University School of Medicine in 1991. He completed a residency at Bridgeport Hospital in internal medicine and another in dermatology at Tulane Medical Center, where he was named chief resident.

Board Certified in internal medicine and dermatology, Dr Patrignelli has authored several medical journal articles. A question and answer session will follow his presentation, and light refreshments will be provided.
