This week's Snapshot features Emily Braun.

Family: My mom, an older sister and an older brother, and me.

Pets: I have a dog and a cat.

Any nicknames? Most people call me Emily, but some of my closer friends call me Em.

How long have you lived in Newtown? My whole life, so a whole 19 years.

Work: I am a student at Fordham University. I’m undeclared right now, but I’m planning to study journalism, potentially an English minor. My passion is writing and reading.

What is your favorite subject? English. It’s always been my favorite subject.

Are you an active member of any clubs, organizations, and/or communities of faith? At school I’m in the Women’s Empowerment Club and I’m also on the Campus Activities Board.

What do you like to do with your free time? In my free time I like to hang with my friends mostly. I have some really close friends from high school and we are like attached at the hip. We do everything together, whether that’s going somewhere or just doing nothing together. I also like to read.

Do you have a favorite author? Melissa Broder.

What was the most recent book you’ve read? The most recent book I read was Less Than Zero by Bret Easton Ellis.

Favorite podcast? “Armchair Expert.” I love listening to interviews. They talk to so many celebrities but they also do fun call-in stories where listeners can call in and answer a prompt, and tell a story about their life. I find podcasts are sometimes a nice break from music or my own thoughts.

Who or what has been the greatest influence on your life? My mom. My mom is my everything. Everything she does is for her kids, and I’ve never met somebody more passionate about taking care of people. She’s just a source of unconditional love.

What was the most recent movie you saw in the theater? The Odyssey, just last weekend, in 70 mm.

Favorite actor? Saoirse Ronan. She’s great.

Favorite color? Blue.

Favorite thing to eat? Fruit, especially berries. Raspberries are my favorite. I could eat a whole package in one sitting.

Do you have a favorite travel destination? I visited Germany for the first time this summer and it was a really beautiful place.

What is your favorite thing about Newtown? My favorite thing about Newtown is, honestly, the people. You realize when you go to college that there’s a sense of community here that doesn’t exist as strongly in a lot of other places. It’s very jarring to notice once you leave. I love that I get to come back here, and be from here, and know that I have a home here.

Do you have a personal credo? Don’t be afraid to embarrass yourself.
