The 2001 Newtown Open has reached the quarter-finals of most events (some participants are actually into the semi-finals) and it all comes to a head on Saturday and Sunday, June 9 and 10, at Dickinson Park.
If the weather does not cooperate, the matches will be played at Beaver Brook Tennis Club.
Here is the lineup as it now stands:
In womenâs singles, Debra Eddy and Donna Svendsen, No. 1 and 2 seeds, have progressed to the semi-final round. Eddy will meet either Kristin McNiff or Kelly Pinckney and Svendsen will play either Meredith Dommu or Sandra Giulley.
In menâs singles, the quarter-finalists will be Fabio Anello, who will play the winner of the match between Akash Lamba (#1 seed) and Raimond Barmansj; the winner of the John Norris and Al Turner match; Bob Elliott and the winner of the match between Shawn Stillman and Tom Conrod; Francis Chach and the winner of the Ritush Venugopal (#2 seed) and Emmanuel DeGalzain match.
The menâs 40 quarter-finalists are Keith Butterfield, who defeated No. 1 seed Mariano Moran in three sets; Stephen Olsson; Chris Radford and the winner of the Marc Swanson and Bob Norris match; Douglas Hart and the winner of the Bernard McFadden and Chip McKee match; Pete Summer and Carl Bailey.

Shirley Avril and Julie Sanderude, the No. 1 seeds, will play Margaret Montanye and Guiliana Montenegro; Kathleen Douglas and Nicole Klarides-Ditria will play the winner of the Loretta Bohman/Denise Dougiello and Nicole Lecher/Gail OâKoniewski (#2 seeds) match.
Menâs open doubles have one team, Bob Elliott and Owen Robertson, already into the semi-finals. Akash Lamba and Ritush Venugopal are seeded No. 1 and will meet Chip McKee and Tim Rives in the quarters. Womenâs 40 doubles quarter-finals will match Susab Arconti and Joyce Lee against Maryanne Conine and Gail Terrell, Sue Clark and Anna Zohn against Loretta Bohnen and Denise Dougiello.
