James T.      O’Connell

James T. O’Connell, 73, husband of Frances M. (Feducia) O’Connell, of 10 North Coe Lane, Ansonia, died May 13 at Bridgeport Hospital following a short illness.

He is survived by a son, Terence F. O’Connell of Newtown.

Mr O’Connell was born in Bridgeport on February 9, 1928, son of the late James J. and Sheila (Patterson) O’Connell. He lived in Bridgeport until moving to Ansonia more than seven years ago. He had worked as a provisional fire lieutenant for the Bridgeport Fire Department for 30 years until his retirement in 1980.

Survivors, besides his wife, Frances, and son, include two daughters, Maura Leigh O’Connell of Bridgeport, and Jamie Ann Avellino of Milford; one niece, June O’Connell; one nephew, Richard O’Connell; a sister-in-law, Florence O’Connell, all of Bridgeport; three grandchildren; four sisters; and several other nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held May 16 at the Spinelli-Malerba Funeral Home, 62 Beaver Street, Ansonia. Burial was in Mount St Peter Cemetery in Derby.

Contributions in his memory may be made to the Humane Society or any local animal shelter of one’s choice.
