If you have always dreamed of being a juror at a fascinating criminal trial, the C.H. Booth Library is looking for you. “Jurors” are needed for the mock trial theatrical program based on the NewtownREADS novel To Kill A Mockingbird, Saturday, April 28.

Perspective jurors must be white males over the age of 25, said librarian Kim Weber. “That’s just the way they did it in Maycomb, Alabama, in 1935 when the trial took place,” she explained.

To Kill A Mockingbird is the 1961 Pulitzer Prize-winning book of how one lawyer’s decision to defend a black man accused of raping a white woman in the inhospitable climate of the early 1930s affected his family and the people of that town. The theatrical presentation will offer Newtowners a fly-on-the-wall look at the trial.

Jurors will not need special costumes. A white dress shirt and dress pants or jeans would be appropriate attire to represent the era, said Ms Weber.

To take part in the production, contact Ms Weber at 426-4533.
