Obituary for Rebecca C. Jorgensen, 83

WELLS, ME. -- Rebecca C. Jorgensen, 83, a resident of Webhannet Harbor, died

March 14 at the Sanford Health Care Facility following a lengthy illness.

She was born February 23, 1915 in Madison, Wis., a daughter of Dr Paul and

Alice Scheidt Clark. Mrs Jorgensen attended school in Madison, then went to

the University of Wisconsin, Madison, where she earned a bachelor's degree in

French and zoology. She was a member of the Pi Phi Sorority.

Following graduation, she married her husband of 59 years, antiques dealer

Robert N. Jorgensen. They lived in Montana, Utah and Oregon for four years

prior to World War II. During the war, while her husband served in the

military, Mrs Jorgensen moved back to Madison. Following the war the

Jorgensens lived in Illinois for 11 years.

In 1957, they bought a business in Livingston, Montana, operating it for ten

years. In 1968, they joined the Peace Corps and went to Africa for three

years. Mrs Jorgensen was involved with the Student Exchange Program. They

settled in Wells, Me., and created R. Jorgensen Antiques, now in its 27th

year.

Mrs Jorgensen is survived by her husband, her sister, Eunice C. Smith of

Concord, N.H.; her brother, Arnold F. Clark of Livermore, Calif.; a son,

Richard C. Jorgensen, and a daughter, Pamela J. Higgins, both of Wells. She is

also survived by two grandsons, David P. Jorgensen and Henry P. Jorgensen,

also of Wells, and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial gathering is planned in her memory at R. Jorgensen Antiques,

locally known as the Mill House, for Sunday, March 29, from 2 until 5 pm.
