Casinos Report Lower Revenue
HARTFORDÂ (AP) â The two Indian-run casinos in Connecticut said revenue in August fell from the same month last year, with one of the businesses blaming the weak economy.
Foxwoods Resort Casino said Monday its slot revenue was $59.2 million, down from $63.1 million in August 2009, or 6 percent. The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, which owns the casino, paid nearly $16 million to the state in August, the share required in its agreement with the state.
William Sherlock, president of Pequot Gaming Enterprises, said the decline was due to the economyâs weak recovery.
The Mohegan Sun reported revenue of $67 million in August, down from $69 million in August 2009, or 3 percent.
Its contribution to the state was about $17.3 million.
