Mardi Gras 2007

Newtown Youth Services and Family Counseling Center would like to invite you to join the celebration on Saturday, March 24, at the Stone Barn at Whitney Farms, Monroe. The festivities will begin at 7 pm. Tickets are $50 and checks may be made out to Newtown Youth Services. For further information or to reserve a ticket, please call NYS at 270-435.

HSYAB will meet on Monday, February 26, at 2 pm, in the high school cafeteria.

Super Sitters — Another course will run on Tuesdays, beginning on February 27 and run every week through March 27. Time is 3:15 to 4:45 pm each Tuesday. The fee, for the five sessions, is $50, which includes all materials and snacks. Space is limited and this course tends to fill quickly. To register, call NYS at 270-4335.

**NEW** Sports Conditioning, Weight Training & Cycling — Newtown Youth Services is pleased to partner with The Fitness Loft, a new gym in town, to offer a six-week program for middle school girls and boys. Boys will begin their sessions on Monday, February 26, and meet on Mondays and Wednesdays. Girls’ classes will begin on Tuesday, February 27, and meet Tuesdays and Thursdays. Both classes will meet for a total of 12 sessions over the six weeks from 2:15 to 3:15. The cost is $120 and will take place at The Fitness Loft on Simm Lane. To register for this program, call NYS at 270-4335.

Groups For Moms

Moms of Infants — For ages birth to one year will meet on Tuesdays, from 10:30 to 11:30 am. Call Newtown Youth Services at 270-4335 to register.

Gym Time is held on Wednesdays from 9:30 to 11:30 am, and is for preschool children. The fee is $30 and the group meets at the Edmond Town Hall Gym.

Support Groups

Caregivers/Grandparents’ Group — The Second Time Around: Raising Your Children’s Children is an ongoing support program that meets on Wednesdays from noon to 1:30 pm. There is no fee.

Hope and Support will meet on Mondays, from 7:30 to 9:30 pm. Parents or caregivers with questions or concerns about a child’s possible or confirmed substance use or abuse are welcome to attend this group. The Hope Group will not meet on school holidays, school breaks, or on snow days.

**NEW** NAMI Support Group for relatives and caregivers of the mentally ill. Join in a confidential and supportive setting to discuss and share information, resources, and fellowship twice a month. The group meets on the first and third Monday of each month from 9:30 to 10:30 at NYS, 10 Glen Road, Sandy Hook. Due to the holiday, the group will meet informally on February 19 only, at Mocha.
