In NYBA midget girls action from the first games of 2012, the Cheetahs were led on the offensive end by Catie Texiera, Erin Kornhaas and Chelsea Fowler while Molly McCleary, Amanda Hagaschi and Emma Archiere player terrific defense.
The Murphy Basketball Camp Orange Crushers had another impressive showing this week, playing an excellent pair of games in their double header. Shea Murphy, Amyla Possey, Erin Phaneuf, Grace Eurell, Kate Petersen, and Chloe OâConnell led the offensive attack, moving the ball well, and attacking the basket throughout both games. Rachel Arena, Samantha DelGuidice, Rebecca Filato, Amelia Hufschmied, Scarlett Long, and Taegan Smith played great team defense and rebounded very well.
The Deadly Sharks shook off the rust to turn in a fine performance. Shannon Kelleher, Olivia Buchler, Maddie Hintze, and Julia Gerace took care of the scoring. Abby Stites, Ella Hage, and Emma Magazu turned in scrappy all around performances and Sarah Savinelli, Ava Iazetta, and Julia Dolan played well on the defensive end.
The Pink Panthers showed up to play some ball this past Saturday. Despite a couple of injuries from practice last week, Madeline Patrick and Lily Swansiger toughed it out and played well. Katie Garner, Madeline Patrick, and Morgan Melillo continue to put points up on the board offensively while Dorina, Victoria and Allyâs aggressive defense is something to be reckoned with. Emily Tressler had some great passes and shots.

Hip Hoopsters 23, Shooting Stars 18: The Hip Hoopsters came from behind in a victory against the Shooting Stars. Down 12-2 going into the half, the team reorganized and performed a steady comeback through the final two quarters. Natalie Kelchner led the team on offense with strong drives to the basket finishing the game with 13 points. Grace Corcoran scored a late basket to support a narrow lead late in the game. On defense, Liz Weisgerber and Cathy Hyeon secured the boards and held back a very good offense. The Shooting Stars put up a well-fought battle against the Hoopsters. The Stars were led offensively by Larkin Huffman (6 points), Sarah Widman (4 points) and Charli Condon (6 points). Defensive standouts included Lauryn Ankers, Greta Staubly, and Brianna Lovely.
Space Narwhals 30, Dr Della Schmid Chiropractic Centre/Sunburst 21: The Space Narwhals and Sunburst fought a close game until the Narwhals opened up a larger margin late in the game. The Narwhals were led in scoring by Cory Mangold (8 points and Teresa Forlenzo (7 points). The offense was supported by strong defense from Lindsay Merrifield and the rest of the team to secure the victory. The short-handed Sunburst exploded out the gate with tenacious defense and scoring led by Sarah Dowling (13 points) and Ashley Soloman (6 points). Emma Schmid-Tarnish contributed with some outstanding passing and defense, while Rachel OâGrady continues to show passion with her defense and rebounding.
Inspirations For Your Home, LLC/Mean Green Fighting Machine 24, Raymond James Financial/Shock 12: A strong all-around effort from the Green Fighting Machine allowed the team to jump to a 14 to 8 lead at half. They seemed to have the game well in hand until the Shock made a run in the third quarter behind the strong rebounding and defense of Julie Anderson and Abby Perason. The scoring was provided by Veronica Verdola (4 points) and Lexi Leidlein (2 points) to cut the lead to 2 points. The Fighting Machines came back in the fourth quarter with some strong defense of their own sparked by steals by Sara Lindell that put the Machines in good scoring position. Dylan Zahanskyâs strong ball handling helped control the game and Ali Tolson put the game away by calmly sinking two free throws.
Monstrosity 26, Tasmanian Devils 10: Purple Monstrosity terrorized the Tasmanian Devils with strong defense and excellent shooting to take a 10 to 0 half time lead. Point Guard Carly Swierbut scored 10 points maintaining her title of âfast break master.â Cailin Wilson and Katie Basset worked together on defense to nullify the opponentâs screen plays. Dani Otero and Jenna Calvalho owned the rebounds on offense and defense. Katie McCabe put on a show at both ends of the court. After getting shell-shocked during the first half blitz by the Monstrosity, the Tassies scrapped back the second half and never gave up against a team hitting on all cylinders. The effort was led by Ava Petrelleseâs scoring (4 points), Marit Lyonâs hustle and point guard play from Jackie Moccio, Sienna Cummings, and Chrissy Sgobbo.

Newtown 22, Devon 21: In a rematch during the second round of the Christian Heritage tournament in Ansonia, Newtown prevailed over Devon with a 1-point win. Post players Carolina Stubbs, Nicki DaPra, and Jenna Lavelle pounded the boards and led the defense, with Lavelle making several strong moves to the basket. Point guards Jackie Matthews and Kim Buttery attacked the basket, serving up assists and putting constant pressure on the defense. Buttery also had a clutch rebound on the last play of the game to secure the win. Tess Davenport, Alison Kelleher and Lauren Adams were impressive on defense. Kristen Cirone led all scorers by finding open space against the zone, earning her a spot on the All Tournament Team.
Newtown 38, Shelton 20: After a slow first quarter, Newtown started clicking and never looked back. Back from injury, Annika Brady was fierce on the boards. Kim Buttery ran the point and led all scorers with 10 points. Lauren Adams was hot from the floor, scoring once each quarter for a total of 8 points. Jenna Lavelle and Kristen Cirone chipped in with 7 and 6 points, respectively. Alison Kelleher and Carolina Stubbs were nearly perfect from the foul line.
Newtown 38, Trumbull 9: Newtownâs man-to-man defense was too much for the Trumbull squad to handle. Jackie Matthews and Tess Davenport flustered their opponents, causing numerous turnovers. Newtownâs tough defense led to transition opportunities for Kim Buttery, Kristen Cirone, and Alison Kelleher. Nicki DaPra, Jenna Lavelle, Carolina Stubbs, and Annika Brady dominated in the paint, controlling the boards and contributing a total of 24 points in the win.
Grade 6
Newtown 30, Norwalk 5: Newtown overpowered Norwalk with their strong defense, led by Kira Smith, Lauren Carino, and Ashley Santore, which limited Norwalk to just 2 points after the first half and 5 points overall. Newtown relied on balanced scoring inside and out with Sarah Houle, Julia Haskins and Marcella Daily all putting up points for Newtown, which improved its league record to 4-0.
Newtown 27, Bethel 20: Newtown was back in action against league rival Bethel and jumped out to a quick lead. Rylee Mulligan controlled the offense with Julia Doyle playing tough for Newtown at both ends of the court. Inside play eventually decided a very close game, with Erin Burns, Alexis Mason and Kira Smith coming up big against a very tough and physical Bethel team. With the win, the Newtown girls remain undefeated in league play.
Madison 39, Newtown 33: Adam Bergeron had hot hands all game long. Nick Weiland played like a madman and Kyle Klutch Roche can make his foul shots and grabbed rebound after rebound leaving a stunned Madison up by one at the half, 17-16. What few Roche missed, Irwin Grewal and Jake Perone were quick to grab, with Grewalâs baby hook keeping the crowd gasping. Birthday boys Ryan Escoda and Silas Decker pounded the hardcourt looking for redemption. Liam Deakin and Evan Eggleston fought the good fight, and Newtown came back strong, but a little too late.
Newtown 46 Bridgeport 58: Ryan Kost showed some mighty fine ballwork, dancing around the big boys from Bridgeport, straight to the net or dumping off to giants Adam Bergeron and Kyle Roche â whose hands continued to be smokinâ hot. Evan Eggleston worked strong passes, dishing blindly to Irwin Grewal who brought it home. The Escoda Hawk Nest filled the stands, and Scooter did not disappoint. He and Nick Weiland stole the ball from guys twice their size, returning from a swarm of arms and legs with the ball time and time again. Jake Perone, Andrew DeLuca, and Silas Decker owned the paint, and as usual, Liam Deakin was relentless attacking the ball honeybadger style.
Grade 7
Newtown 37, New Fairfield 31: Newtown led end-to-end as its pressure defense was too much for New Fairfield to handle. Nikki Zaccaro was high scorer with 13 points, including 7 for 11 from the foul line. Birthday girl Jillian Pieretti added 11. Pieretti and Jess Maturo (2 assists) were the leading rebounders with 5 apiece, while Pieretti had 7 steals and Hailey Conrad 6. Cassidy Datin added 3 rebounds, 2 steals, and 2 blocked shots.
Newtown 23, Bethel 34: Newtown could not get untracked against a talented Bethel squad. Conrad led with 7 points, followed by Pieretti with 6. Conrad had 7 rebounds, Colleen McCarthy (2 assists) 6, and Natalie Shaker (2 points) 5. Conrad had 6 steals and Olyvia Shaw (4 points) 5. Meghan Doyle (3 points) and Bella Luciano (3 rebounds) played tenacious defense.
Grades 7 & 8
One Eyed Pig BBQ Da Bears 32, The Celtics 25: Madilyn Cole scored 10 points and Sarah Bender chipped in 8 to lead Da Bears to victory. Brittany Meisenheimer was the defensive star, recording 5 steals and Simone Afriyie controlled the paint, hauling in 8 rebounds. The Celtics were paced by Lexi Tuckerâs 11 points. Kayla Kordish handed out 55 assists and Michaela Jackman pulled down 10 rebounds. Danielle Mola contributed a key basket to keep the game close.
South Cove Globetrotters 27, Worldwide Coverage Spartans 22: Caroline Caporale scored 8 points for the winning Globetrotters. Kamdynn Moroney and Jess Shairer combined for 9 points to balance the scoring attack. Chrissy Moore handed out 5 assists and Rachel DâAusilio grabbed 5 rebounds. The Spartans were led by Kayla DiSibioâs 12 points and 8 rebounds. Marissa Thill handled the point guard duties, dishing out 5 assists, while grace Larsen anchored the defense with 8 steals. Emily Dirga had a solid game on the glass, grabbing 6 rebounds.
Elemonaders 24, Style 23: The Elemonaders won a nail-biter as Abby Kohler found Aimee Talbot under the basket for the winning shot in the 1-point victory. Talbot totaled 8 points on the day, while Erin Tressler had a great game running the offense, handing out 4 assists. Erin Mingey swiped 2 steals and Ashley Lynch grabbed 8 rebounds. Rachel Williams paced the Style offense with 6 points while Stef Carr, Olivia Hamula, and Kayla Ward all chipped in 4 points apiece. Amanda Solomon sparked the defense and Annie Hoffman controlled the paint by recording 8 rebounds.
The Blitz 24, CTS Micro Flintstones 23: The Blitz pulled out the 1-point victory behind the offense of Maddie Pirone and Emily Montoya, who each scored 8 points. Carly Kreshpan chipped in 4 points and 6rebounds, while Lauren King scored a critical basket late in the game. Jess Mullany had a great all-around game, controlling both ends of the floor. Katie Laaksonen led the CTS Micro Flintstones with 7 points and Sarah Spillane had 6 points. Anna Buzzanca led the team with 8 rebounds and Jaimy Fellin led the team with 5 steals. Emily Bell, Sydney Flint, and Samantha Lotko played tough defense.

Grades 2 & 3
Geckos vs Defenders: The Geckos squared off against a talented Defender squad this past Saturday. Both team played outstanding throughout the contest. The offensive leaders for the Geckos were John Sullivan, Noah Dinallo, Jack Petersen, and Andrew Bazuro. Jake Mailloux, Zachary Katsuleres, Mason Woodard and Ben Paley hustled all game and were great on defense.
The Doritos started the new year off with a crunch. The team was led by great shooting by Patrick Doyle, Sean Kerins,and Michael Elston. The defense specialists were Cody Meier, Matthew Pereira, and Daniel Jaeger.
The Slammers had another great weekend. David Braun was very aggressive on offense and led all scorers. Steven Mayer was also an offensive star with points and assists. Tom Bassett controlled the boards and showed strong defense.
The Newtown Heat were on fire this past weekend, playing aggressive defense and solid offense. On the boards, Deagan Granville came down with numerous rebounds and on offense Brandon Manka and Nick Adams took the ball down the lanes for numerous scores. Richard Guman demonstrated excellent ball control skills from the point guard position, setting up many offensive plays.
The Defenders lived up to their name this weekend and played strong defense as a team. The defense and hustle of Eric Gay, Gregory Gargano, and Peter Taweh led to several steals and fast breaks. Daniel Pond and Matt Weisgerber did a good job controlling the offense and moving the ball around, while Macklin Berry had several rebounds and scored some points from the low post.
The Bolts played their first five-on-five game of the season. Jonathan Taylor provided the excitement as he hit a half-court shot at the buzzer (and then performed a celebratory front hand spring). Lyle Petrellese did a great job running the fast break as he grabbed several rebounds and passed ahead to his teammates. James Iaropoli and Ryan Verdi showed great teamwork with great passing and pick setting.
The Black Dragons played with fire and passion this past weekend and really showed a strong effort on offense. Drew Poseno and Jonathan OâLeary led the scoring attack, while Jake Holmes and Miller Tetrault showed exceptionally passing. Trevor Jacozzi and Matthew Williams led the team with rebounds and a strong defensive effort against the Maroon Magic.
The Maroon Magic put on a great show of basketball skill throughout their game against the Black Dragons. Sean Reilly and Kyle Reilly led the team on offense with their teamwork (thatâs what brothers are for!). William Brock also added to the scoring and assists and playing with enthusiasm. Teddy Teraszkiewicz played great defense and led the team in rebounds.
The Huskies played a great game on Saturday and were lead on offense by James Malin and CJ Cuomo. Luke OâConnor did a great job on the boards and the defense was led by Jimmy McPadden and Jeremy Pancow.
The Green Goblins played with enthusiasm this week against the Doritos. Clayton Kunzweiler and Ryan Heran were outstanding shooting the ball on offense, while Smith Arend handled the ball from the point. Evan Craybas and Will Wallace played ball hawking defense, while Aiden Foss controlled the boards with many rebounds.
The Ten Musketeers really lived up to the motto, âAll for one and one for all,â playing together as a team. Julian Totir was an incredible force on defense, while Brendan Morrissey, Aditya Ramadhar and Jack Stenz controlled the boards. Mark Sadowski and Jack Street were running the Princeton weave and proved too much on the offensive end, leading the way to a sound effort for the Musketeers.
NightHawks. Aiden Finnegan, Ryan Bicho, and Liam OâConnell led the NightHawks offense, running the plays to perfection and scoring multiple baskets. Gus Coffey & Brendan Adams showed exceptional hustle pulling down many rebounds and leading the NightHawks defensive effort.
Grade 3
Easton 30, Mavs 6: Karl Miller, Luke Hannan, and CJ Demers each scored a bucket against their fourth grade match up, while Hannan and Demers had 5 rebounds a piece. Michael Haddick and Trevor Barrett also chipped in 3 boards each and 3 steals combined. The taller foes made it difficult to get good looks, but the defensive effort was tremendous and the Mavs gave their Easton foes everything they had.
Mavs 15, Milford Hurricanes 10: The upstart Mavs showed that against a same aged group they have come a long way. CJ Demers hit the first triple of the season at the first half buzzer and had 7 points on the day. Michael Haddick and Trevor Barrett also contributed 4 points a piece, Haddick was extremely efficient on the day on the baseline. Luke Fischer had 8 rebounds, Luke Hannan 6, Demers 5, and Haddick 4. The team totaled 29 rebounds in all showing that their aggressive play was contagious on this day.

AdvisersTrust.com Bullets 28, Wolves 19: Harry Kelchner and Miles Ricks combined for 14 points for the Bullets. Stephen Oberstadt led the offense with 4 assists. J.P. Ford had 5 steals and Stephen Sedensky had 8 boards to lead the defense. Brandon Lutz and Jack Kuligowski combined for 10 points for the Wolves. Milan Chand had 3 assists. On defense Eamon Doherty had 5 steals, while Matt Heinhein had 7 boards.
Green Goblins 34, Green Hornets 32: Kyle Sullivan and Max Wrage combined for 14 points for the Goblins, while Luke Sposato manned the point and had 3 assists. Patrick Grover had 5 steals on defense and Trevor Merrick had 7 boards. For the Green Hornets, Nick Kalra and Luke Azzarito combined for 20 points. Will Swift distributed the ball well with 3 assists. Bryan Bailey had 3 steals and Will Crebbin had 7 boards on defense.
Vikings 43, Spartans 20: Sean McKinley, Kyle Godfrey and Stephen Dooley each scored 8 points for the Vikings, while Matt Bradbury had 3 assists to lead the offense. Thomas Armstrong was all over the court with 5 steals on defense and Will Archiere swept the boards with 8 rebounds. Riley Ward and Elias Enriquez combined for 13 points to lead the Spartans. Keith Carvalho led the offense with 4 assists, while Stephen Vournazo had 5 steals and Brett Pierce had 8 rebounds.
Tigers 37, Tarheels 17: For the Tigers, Jared Dunn and Jack Lydon combined for 18 points. Chris Frascatore had 4 assists from the point. Rohan Manusukhani had 4 steals and Hunter Kirkman had 9 rebounds on defense. Jack Mulligan and Derrick Sieber combined for 13 points to lead the Tarheels, while Robert Hetzer chipped in with 3 assists. Max Hubner had 4 steals for the defense and Carter Tagliarini had 7 rebounds.
White Mavs 17, Blue Mavs 13: In a battle of Newtown teams, the White Mavs came back from 5points down at the half to beat the Blue Mavs 17-13 on Saturday at the Newtown Youth Academy. Kyle Good led the White Mavs with 7 points and 9 rebounds. Jack Mulligan and Jack Kuligowski chipped in 4 apiece. Kyle Sullivan and Sammy Eppers had strong play at point guard, while Jack Lydon, Charlie Eppers, and Max Wrage played solid defense and combined for 12 rebounds. Josh Taylor led the Blue Mavs offense with 8 points. Nick Kalra and Keenan Murphy each tossed in 2, while Liam Murphy connected for 1 at the foul line. Joey Rios and Taylor were strong on the boards, combining for more than 12 rebounds. Dillon Robinson was relentless on defense, snatching a rebound and making a crucial steal. Kieran Coffey, Zach Droukas, and Drew Mitchell kept up the defensive pressure, holding the White Mavs offense to just 4 points in the first half. The White Mavs offense sprang back in the second half to overcome the scoring deficit and secure the win.
New Canaan 32, White Mavs 23: New Canaan handed the White Mavs their first loss of the season on Sunday at Jonathan Law High School in Milford. Jack Mulligan led the White Mavs with 12 points and 8 rebounds. Kyle Good and Patrick Oberstadt combined for 11 rebounds. Jack Lydon, Kyle Sullivan, and Jack Kuligowski ran the point and had multiple assists. Sammy Eppers and Charlie Eppers, along with Max Wrage, contributed on both ends of the court.
Easton 24, Blue Mavs 18: Later that afternoon in Milford, the Blue Mavs lost to Easton, 24-18. In a game that was close through the final quarter, Joey Rios led the offense with 9 points, 6 from underneath and 3 at the foul line. Nick Kalra hit 2 jump shots and Keenan Murphy connected for 1, adding 6 points, while Josh Taylor put up 3 for the Blue Mavs offense. Rios brought down 16 rebounds, while Kieran Coffey and Zach Droukas combined for 5 and Murphy grabbed 6. Taylor added 5 rebounds and 6steals for the Blue Mavs defense. Dillon Robinson and Drew Mitchell kept the pressure on the Easton offense, while Liam Murphy had 2 assists and worked to create scoring opportunities for the Blue Mavs through the final minutes of the game.
Grade 5
Adviserstrust.com Knicks 37, The Hawks 19: For the Knicks, Tucker Garrity and Timmy Davis combined for 16 points. Jonathan Nahmias had 4 assists, Paul Samberg had 6 steals and Garrett Norberg had 8 rebounds. For the Hawks, Jacob Clements and Harry Lucas combined for 13 points, while Thomas Luciano had 3 assists, James Schumacher led the defense with 4 steals and Sean McCleary had 7 rebounds.
Orangemen 28, Blue Blazers 24: Chris Maturo and Jack Sullivan combined for 18 points for the Orangemen. Trevor Tyrell led the offense with 3 assists, while Easton Ricks had 4 steals to key the defensive effort and Ty Dickinson had 7 rebounds. For the Blazers Miles Martiska and Jack Hannan combined for 11 points while Bryan Ingwersen had 3 assists, Derrick Lewis had 5 steals and Bobby Elston had 8 rebounds
Red Devils 27, Shooting Stars 27: For the Devils Andreas Nottelman and Will Hampford combined for 25 points. Vincent Genovese directed the offense from the point, while Tyler Clure shone on defense with 5 steals and Karl Kelly had 10 boards. The Stars were led by the scoring of Thomas Briscoe and Gabe Stewart, who combined for 14 points. Charlie Asetta had 3 assists and Robbie Morrill led the way on defense with 5 steals and Jack Clark had 10 rebounds.
Ridgefield 43, Newtown 36: Newtown got off to a slow start and trailed 14-8 at the end of the first quarter. Newtown then got going and went on a 26-16 run over the next two quarters behind the play of Michael Cotton, Luke Barrett, Robert Disibio, and Aidan Moulder, who contributed 8, 7, 6 and 6 points, respectively, for the game. Their efforts were not enough as Ridgefield controlled the fourth quarter to win by a final score of 43-36. Solid efforts in defeat were received from Griffin Cross, Jimmy Davies, James Doyle, Dan Mason, Luke Melillo, Todd Petersen, and Bryan Vander Have.
Newtown 34, Darien 23: Newtown jumped out early on Darien with intense full court pressure and went into the half with a commanding 19-5 lead. The offense was led by James Doyle, Dan Mason, and Luke Barrett. Doyle and Mason chipped in with 8 points each, while Barrett contributed 6 in the win. Solid offensive and defensive efforts were also put forth by Michael Cotton, Griffin Cross, Jimmy Davies, Luke Melillo, Aidan Moulder, Todd Petersen, and Bryan Vander Have.
St Theresaâs 49, Newtown 37: Newtown stormed out of the gate to a 17-11 lead on a very solid St Theresaâs squad. St Theresaâs used a trapping full court press early in the second half to regain control of the game and led by a score of 35-22 at the end of three quarters. Newtown battled back to cut the deficit to 41-37 with just under 2 minutes to go behind the efforts of Jimmy Davies, who led the scoring with 9 points, Robert Disibio, Michael Cotton and Luke Barrett. Their efforts were not enough as St Theresaâs held off Newtown by a final tally of 49-37. Solid play was also received from Griffin Cross, James Doyle, Dan Mason, Luke Melillo, Aidan Moulder, Todd Petersen, and Bryan Vander Have.
Bethel 26, Mavs 14: The Mavs played great defense after a couple week layoff for the holidays. Ben Futterman led the way with 7 steals. While Futterman and Jack Hannan had 6 and 5 rebounds apiece. Derrick Lewis led the way on offense with 4 points, while Garrett Norberg, Thomas Luciano, Ben Futterman, Jack Hannan, and Harry Lucas also contributed. In the end, too many open looks didnât find the bottom of the net.
Monroe 44, Mavs 11: The Monroe teams full court pressure led to a lot of easy buckets, due to far too many turnovers. Harry Lucas dropped 6 points, while Gavin Connors and Thomas Luciano and Jack Hannan rounded out the scoring. Garrett Norberg was an animal on defense and the boards, leading the Mavs team to a high energy second half, but to no avail.
Grade 6
Celtics 28, Sox 24: The Celtics got out to a big first half lead, and was up by double digits early in the third, before the Sox came storming back to make it a one possession game in the closing minute. Leading the Celtics defense was Cameron MacDonald, who got key rebounds and stops while protecting the paint. Leading the Câs offense was David Daria and Owen Rahr who combined for 20 points (or an amazing 71 percent of the Câs total points). Daria stuck his shots, while Rahr cleaned up the offensive boards with sweet putbacks. The Sox rode the hot shooting hand of Dylan Sock to almost pull out a hard-fought victory. Dylan erupted for 17 of his game-high 20 points in the second half. Dylanâs hot shooting combined with the tenacious pressure defense of his teammates almost brought them all the way back for a hard-fought victory.
Thunder 37, Advisory Trust.com Doughnuts 32: The Thunder played another exciting game on Saturday. After ending the first 4 minutes down 9 to 4 the boys quickly regrouped, played hard, took the lead and never looked back. The win with a final score of 37 to 32 was well balanced with seven boys putting points on the board. Leading all scorers with 10 points each were Eugene Citrano and Mathew Sadowski. Alex Janiak (6), Adam Farley (4), Kenny Malin (4), Kevin Reiss (2), and Kai Toomey (1) rounded out the Thunder scoring. All the boys played strong defense. Alex Janiak and Matthew Sadowski both pulled down 6 rebounds, Kenny Malin grabbed 2 and Jack Buchler grabbed 1. Jack Carello did an excellent job inbounding the ball and had a big defensive stop, while Jack Buchler and EJ Santayana played aggressive defense causing multiple turnovers, which lead to Thunder points. The boys played well together and are really starting to play as a team.
Black Hawks 35, Buckateers 26: The Black Hawks had all 10 players on their roster score points in the game. They were led offensively by Robert Murray with 11, Evan Landgrebe, Doug Carriero, and Ricky Mariani all had 4 points. Ben Terry and Wally Skrelja did a great job running the Black Hawks offense. Defensively the Hawks had outstanding play by Thomas Skrelja, Jermane Anyoha, Jack Ciaramello, and Zack DeMeglio. Robert Murray 10, Thomas Skrelja 7 and Wally Skrelja 5 were leading rebounders for the Hawks. Leading most of the game in an effort to topple the undefeated first place Blackhawks, the Buckateers couldnât penetrate the zone defense in the fourth quarter. Cameron Champagne led the Buccaneers with 6 points after shooting 3 for 9 from the floor. Harry Eppers, Dylan Champagne and Sam Parsons had 4 points each. Mathew Menousek (2 for 2 from the charity stripe), Tom Fitzgerald, Travis Huzina and Liam Jones chipped in a pair each. Fitzgerald led the tough luck âteers with 5 rebounds. Jack Vaughan had 2 assists.
Tornadoes 32, Swishers 28: The Tornadoes, paced by Brian Montoya and John Finnegan, moved past the Swishers 32-28. Five players scored for the Tornadoes, including Avi Bhaya, Kevin Riccardi and Rhett Saunders, while Adam Wolff and Owen Walsh had 4 assists each to pace a balanced attack. The Tornadoes trailed 17-16 at halftime, but they clamped down defensively and went on a decisive 10-3 run in the third quarter to take a 6-point lead into the fourth quarter. Bobby Howard, Michael Garner, and Matthew Lundquist were a part of a strong defensive effort in the second half that helped the Tornadoes earn their third victory of the season. The Swisher attack was led by Timmy Shawâs 7 points, Grant Moxhamâs 7 points and 4 points each from Connor Dinallo and Jack Oltran. Liam Begany, Justin Woodard, and Ryan Mailloux had solid games and played great defense. John Payne was outstanding in the paint helping to control the boards for the Swishers.
Invaders 34, Hot Shots 31 (OT): Jackson Dooley scored the only points in overtime (3) to lead the Invaders with 9 points, including a clutch free throw late in OT. Tyler Gaynor played great with many key rebounds on both sides of the court and Dominic Scalzo added over 7 steals. Ethan Aug (6pts) and Dino Vogziatis (2pts) played well offensively while Jack Miller added 8 for the Invaders. Greg Brissette led the Hot Shots with 12 tough points with his relentless efforts. Nate Jones and Kent Mullen added to the Hot Shots scoring with 6 and 10 points. The invaders we tough underneath, but Jack Murray put up his best game yet with 7 rebounds for the Hot Shots. Tristian Crone and Matt Principi left all they had on the floor, but the Hot Shots came up just short as the Invaders prevailed in the overtime.
Sox 30, Monstars 29: The Socks used a strong overall team effort to defeat the Monstars 30-29. The game was tight throughout, with the largest lead being 6 points. The Monstars had a last second half court shot that was just off the mark as the buzzer sounded. Dylan Sock and David Kohler led the scoring effort for the Sox. Kyle Chernoff dominated the boards in the fourth quarter with several key rebounds and put-back baskets. Brooks Petershack, Shane Maksel, and AJ Salaris played aggressive defense and controlled the boards, while Chris Daubert, Christian Lestik and Owen Sullivan played tight defense on the Monstarâs ball handlers. Joshua Dunn and Jake Duffy led the Monstars on offense in the losing effort. Down the stretch Anthony Isabella and Andrew Buzzi played tough defense and pulled down 6 rebounds apiece

Newtown Mavericks 37, Monroe 36: Down 6 points in the fourth quarter, the Newtown Mavericks applied their full court press, and converted Monroe turnovers into baskets to come back in victory. Newtown took control in the final minutes Sunday, outscoring their opponent 13-6 . Sam Grossano (5 points) and Austin Engler (4 points) handled the point with poise, penetrating and dishing out three assists each in the win. Gavin Stubbs netted 9 and Brian Flood had 6 points and 4 rebounds. Tommy Kitzmiller (2 points) had a key block and several steals in the waning moments as Connery Mayer (3 points) played smothering defense for the Mavs.
Newtown Mavericks 32, Bethel 48: Newtown Mavericks travel team was defeated Saturday by Bethel seventh grade team at the Newtown Youth Academy 48-32. Solid outside shooting and a front court height advantage made it an uphill climb for the Mavs. Gavin Stubbs had a team high 10 points and Andrew Lee had 8 points. Will Huegi and Jason Hebner finished with 4 points each.
Newtown 68, Wilton 38: Newtown played its best game of the year on both ends of the floor, avenging a 21-point loss to Wilton in the preseason. Ten Newtown players got on the scoreboard in a well-balanced offensive effort. Bobby Haskins led the way with 21 points, with Mitchell Savoca and Hayes Kelchner contributing 12 and 10 points, respectively. Tom Cotton had several assists on the fast break, and Newtown received great defensive stops and rebounds from both Lucas OâBrien and Jack Lavelle. The team is still undefeated in league play at 4-0.
Newtown 64, Madison 39: Again, ten players got on the scoreboard as the teamâs offense was tough to stop. Hayes Kelchner led all scorers, but also grabbed 20 rebounds. Connor Barrett played a strong point guard and Jack Moulder contributed with his usual 3-point swish. Justin Dunn played an aggressive defense and nailed 3 buckets for 6 points. Ben Mason grabbed 3 offensive rebounds and put many back in as he added 10 points.

Cushman & Wakefield Fury 35, Celtics 34: The Fury came out strong taking a 24-12 halftime lead. The undefeated Celtics made a great comeback tying the game late in the 4th quarter at 34 before Devin Luzietti put in the back end of a one & one with 12 seconds left to win it for the Fury. Peter Clifford played a great game all over the court. He was 8 for 12 from the floor leading the Fury in scoring with 16 points and 6 steals while also grabbing 7 rebounds. Luzietti finished with 5 points, 4 assists 3 steals and 11 rebounds. Nick Venezia, Tommy Elliott and Colby Olson each scored 4 points and Mitchell Long chipped in a 10 foot jump shot for 2 points
The Celtics rallied back from a 14 point deficit in the 3rd quarter to tie the game at 34 with a minute to play. Unfortunately for the Celtics, the Fury forced a critical turnover with just 24 seconds to play and held on to win the game with a one point lead. During the second half, the Celtics played an aggressive up-tempo defensive game that allowed them to get back in the game. James Carney lead the Celtics with 13 points, Jake Courchene-Roy added 9, and Joe Duero contributed 6 points. Colin McCafferty played another strong game distributing the ball for the Celtics
Lovino Brothers Thunderbirds 53, Raymond James Financial Newtown Celtics 47: The Thunderbirds were led to the win by their big men. Jeremy Salaris scored 11 points, and Austin Dignan and Brandon Pavlicek each had 8. The three were monsters on the boards as well, combining for nearly 20 rebounds. On defense, Lucas LaDestro and Tim Jaeger were aggressive all game long and each caused fourth quarter turnovers that helped decide the game. Scotty Bauer deftly helped run the point and chipped in with 11 clutch points.
Eyes on the Prize 47, Wolverines 25: Eyes on the Prize won behind a tremendous team effort. Sam Duffy had 16 points, Dylan Tyrell chipped in 8 points, 6 boards, 4 assists, and 3 steals, while Steven Moccio added 8 points and 6 assists. Elliott Bennett controlled the paint with 8 points and 10 boards. Nick Lombardo chipped in 4 points, and Hunter Booker, Will Ballard, Andrew Ross, and Robert Lombardo led a tenacious defensive effort as they combined for 11 rebounds and 5 steals. Matthew Ingwersen and Nick Brown provided a strong defensive effort. Kevin Finnegan and Adam Weber played hard the whole game.
Huskies 53, Raymond James Financial Lockouts 34: The Huskies were led by Sam Czel and Tim Vander Have combining for 33 points. Markus dominated the boards with 10 rebounds. Robert Katrinak, Jordan Klein, and Marc Lasorsa added the smothering defense.
Big Dogs 58, Cool Running 43: The Big Dogs offense was led by James Accousti and Colin Patrick for a combined 43 points. Thomas Stanczyk, Jack Phelps, and Alex Dunleavy had a solid game under the board with 6, 5, and 4 points, respectfully. Patrick Godino, Jerl Draper, Tyler LaCroce, and Will LeMays played aggressive defense. keeping pressure on the entire game. A solid team performance by the Big Dogs. In a losing effort, Cool Running was led on offense by Parker Johnson and Dave Anderson. Ryan Marron led the team with 8 rebounds, while Ryan Norton played tough defense.
Grizzlies 49, CTS Micro Bulldogs 31: It was an complete team effort on offense for the Grizzlies with every player making it into the score book. Standouts included Matt Campbell, who drained a couple of baskets off rebounds; Spencer Johnson, who nailed some treys; and Kieran Lynch, who scored both inside and out. Kevin Chernoff led the defense with 4 blocked shots; Adam Becket, Taylor Koonz, Nick Lametto, and Brian Manna played ferocious in the paint. Nick Bourgeois led the CTS Micro Bulldogs with 10 points and Liam Palilla with 7 points. Matt Krasnickas led the team with 9 rebounds and Philip Coffey led the team with 3 steals. Mark Zavatsky, Bryan Silk, and Max Weber played solid defense.
Thunder 34, Alpacas 33: The Thunder squeaked out a 1-point win behind Austin DeSouzaâs double of 10 points and 12 rebounds, well supported by Matt Davis (8 points) and Spencer Tolson with two timely 3-pointers. Strong defense was provided by Dan McCarthy, Trystan Wagner, and Evan Cerretta. Owen Gray, Chris Mok, and David Usher moved the ball with purpose on offense. Nick Genovese paced the Alpacas with 13 points. Owen McInerney, Josh Houle, and Chad Azzarito also contributed strong all around games.
Murphy Basketball Camp Da Bulls 47, Wolfpack 42: For Da Bulls, an all-around team effort on both the defensive end led by Shawn McCarthy, Patrick Flynn, and Nick Rohbarcher, as well as strong offensive contribution from both Cameron Mitchell and Greg Trimarchi, helped propel Da Bulls to their win. Austin Kasbarian led the Wolfpack scoring with 13 points, while Jimmy Buck added 12 and Jack Procaccini chipped in with 10. Jonathan Paes played a solid game for the Wolfpack under the basket, pulling down several rebounds.
