PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The Rhode Island School of Design is showing “Process and Function: Traditional Japanese Printmaking Technique,” through Sunday, May 27. To complement the special exhibition of “Feather, Flowers, Talons and Fangs: Power and Serenity in Japanese Nature Prints,” the museum’s Japanese prints gallery is featuring works that address technical issues in traditional Japanese printmaking.

The show includes a brief survey of the evolution of printmaking techniques and a case filled with tools and materials used in printing. In addition, the exhibit addresses questions like the artistic process and the use of prints in Japanese society.

RISD is at 224 Benefit Street. For more information, www.risdmuseum.org or 401-454-6500.
