Fresh Air Fund Seeking Volunteers For Summer 2007

The Fresh Air Fund’s Newtown area volunteer leaders are seeking committee members to ensure that summer 2007 is special for New York City children.

Each summer, close to 5,000 children between ages 6 to 18 enjoy two-week vacations with volunteer host families in suburban and small town communities across 13 northeastern states from Maine to Virginia and in Ontario, Canada. Local Fresh Air Fund committee members recruit and interview host families, check references, and coordinate Friendly Town program activities in their communities.

“I enjoy being a part of my community’s Fresh Air volunteer team and working closely with others who want to make summer special for New York City children,” said one Fresh Air Fund Committee member. “I know that I am making a real contribution with my organizational and leadership skills.”

Newtown area volunteers need your help to create another fun-filled summer for children from New York City’s low-income communities. “You get to see all the stuff you can’t see in the city, like fireflies,” said Brianna, a 7-year-old who lives in the Bronx.

In 2007, The Fund continues its 130-year-old tradition of serving children with a wide variety of special events and volunteer opportunities. For more information on how to can join the local Fresh Air volunteer team, call Christopher Dorman at 800-367-0003, extension 8962.
