Great Teamwork

To the Editor:

On August 22, a group of ten volunteers with a small truck pitched in to move a disabled senior to a new home. It resulted from team work between and among Friends of Newtown Seniors (FONS), The Newtown Lions Club, Newtown Commission on Aging (COA), Newtown Social Services, and Newtown Youth and Family Services.

Newtown is embarking on implementing a long-awaited chore service, which will connect seniors in need with support to accomplish everything from basic household tasks to major home repairs. The idea is to allow Newtown residents to age-in-place so they can continue to live in the town they know and have chosen as home. There is a need not only for additional volunteers but for leadership for this undertaking.

If you are well organized and really enjoy helping people we urge you to step forward to help us make this a service that directly helps those in need in our community. Any one or any group that would like to discuss the possibility of building the best chore service in the state can contact FONS at info@friendsofnewtownseniors.org.

Newtowners take care of each other.
