Artifacts And Kids Crafts:
Programs Planned At IAIS
WASHINGTON â The Institute for American Indian Studies has a pair of family programs planned for the first two weekends in April.
Still wondering what that unique rock is? Dust off those mystery items and bring them to IAIS for identification Sunday, April 1, between 1 and 4 pm. Dr Lucianne Lavin, the museumâs director of research and collections, will identify artifacts and answer questions. Visitors are asked to limit the number of artifacts to 12 per person.
This program will be included with museum admission, which is $5 for adults, $4.50 for senior citizens, and $3 for children.
Kidsâ Craft Day will be held Saturday, April 7. Dance Stick Craft sessions will be held from noon to 1 and 2 to 3 pm, with dance sessions being offered at 1 and 3 pm.
Join IAIS educators for a fun afternoon of dance and crafts. Children, accompanied by an adult, will create their own dance stick and then participate in a traditional Native American dance. The workshops will be guided by Bill Gloade, who is of Miâkmaq descent. Cost for this program is $6 for children and $5 for adults.
The museum is at 38 Curtis Road; call 860-868-0518 for registration or additional information.
