Preserving A Landmark

To the Editor:

A sincere thank you goes to State Representative Julia Wasserman.

Notification that the State Bond Commission approved an $85,000 grant for roof repairs and other improvements to the old Bethel railroad station is great news!

Associated with fond memories of the conductor’s shout, “Bethel, next,” this landmark is now guaranteed a place in Bethel’s downtown history. Today this building houses The Bethel Arts Junction cooperative, where area artists display their work. Instead of welcoming commuters from New York City, the Arts Junction now welcomes artists’ work from New York City to New Milford.

Again, thank you Julia for securing funding to preserve a Bethel landmark and enabling the old railroad station to again serve our community.

Robert V. Denninger

Chairman, Bethel Republican Town Committee

105 Putnam Park Road, Bethel                                    May 18, 2001
