Pianist Leslie Merwin To Open July Love & Knishes Programs

SOUTHBURY — Area seniors are invited to enjoy lunch and entertainment on Tuesdays in July at the Love and Knishes Lunch programs of the Federation-Jewish Communities of Western Connecticut.

The programs take place in the social hall at the Walzer Family Jewish Community Campus, 444 Main Street North. The food is freshly prepared each week by Chef Nancy Stokes and features healthful, delicious menus with everything from salad to dessert. Lunch is served at noon and programs start at 1 pm.

On July 5, the award winning pianist Leslie Merwin will present a concert featuring music by Chopin, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff, and Scriabin.

Ms Merwin has established a varied career that encompasses all facets of performing, both in the United States and in Europe. She has appeared as soloist with numerous orchestras, and her engagements include concerts at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Carnegie Recital Hall, the 92nd Street Y in New York, and the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston.

The July 12 program will feature a talk on the Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Plan, presented by Dawn Macary of the Western Connecticut Area Agency on Aging.

Musical programs return for the last two weeks of the month. Only July 19, pianist Roger Young will accompany vocalist Alexa Fitchett with a relaxed repertoire of great American standards, jazz, and show tunes.

On July 26, “When the World Was Young” will feature singer Ercole Gaudioso with pianist Jeanne Hinkson performing favorites from the 40s and 50s.

Lunch reservations should be made by Friday for the following week. All programs are open to the public, and there is a suggested donation of $5.50 for seniors.

To RSVP, call Debby Horowitz, Brownstein Jewish Family Service program director, at 267-3177, extension 105.
