School & Symphony Invite The Public On A Musical Voyage

WATERBURY - Next month, St. Margaret-McTernan School will celebrate the 25th

anniversary of the merger of two separate schools with a concert during Alumni

Weekend. The performance, by the Waterbury Symphony Orchestra (WSO), will also

be the inaugural production of a new series, the Lucy Templeton Kellogg

Visiting Artist Series.

In the multi-sensory/multi media concert that will be open to the public,

entitled "The Journey of Voyager," earth sounds such as laughter, fire, whales

and birds will accompany images of the solar system being projected onto large

screens. Under the direction of Maestro Leif Bjaland, the WSO will present a

program which includes a variety of music from Bach to Berry (as in Chuck),

with selections sure to delight music lovers of all ages.

Lucy Templeton was a graduate of St. Margaret-McTernan. She was a Trustee for

the school, on the board since 1954, and served as president of the Alumni

Association. After her death, her children wanted to do something very special

in their mother's memory, and so the visiting artist series was created.

In the Lucy Templeton Kellogg Visiting Artist Series, artists of different

backgrounds will spend a day at the Waterbury school working with the

students, before presenting a program for the students and the public. The

entire school will be involved in the program. The artwork depicting the solar

system in the May 9 concert will be created by the students.

The series will be an ongoing program. Money earned from ticket sales will be

put into a rollover fund to benefit the school, and also to fund future

programs.

Mrs Kellogg was also a lifelong subscriber to the WSO, which made the decision

to invite the orchestra to participate in the first visiting series program a

very natural one.

"My mother had a lifelong involvement and a deep love of this school," said

Judy Rowley. "This is very exciting, not only from my point of view but I also

feel this is a wonderful way to remember my mother. The series will enrich the

lives of students not only now, but 10, 15, even 20 years from now."

Following the one-hour Saturday evening concert, a reception will be held

where concertgoers will be able to meet with members of the orchestra and

members of the Kellogg family.

Tickets for the performance alone are $10. For the concert and reception, cost

is $25. For tickets or additional information, contact the Development Office
