"Emily" Extended
The exhibition "Imagining Emily," which presents a collection of 17 small art
quilts based on the life and writings of Emily Dickinson, has been extended to
May 16 at C.H. Booth Library in Newtown. The show was originally scheduled to
close April 30.
The quilts were created by members of The Scrapbag Connection, a group of
quilters from Fairfield and Litchfield counties. "Imagining Emily" was the
title of a bookend piece that ran in an issue of The New York Times Book
Review . The article concerned the ongoing influences of Dickinson's poetry on
a variety of artists, from painters and sculptors to performance artists.
Each quilt is hung with the poem, or portion of the poem, that inspired the
quilted piece. In some cases, parts of verses have been worked into the quilt
itself.
C.H. Booth Library is at 25 Main Street in Newtown; telephone 426-4533.
Library patrons are welcome to view "Imagining Emily" during regular library
hours.
