The Newtown Womanâs Club, GFWC, would like to thank everyone who participated in our annual Valentines for Veterans program. The womanâs club has celebrated Valentines for Veterans for many years by asking Newtown residents to participate in honoring our veterans for serving our country. The response this year surpassed our expectations with over 2,000 valentines.
The cards were made or donated by the students at Newtown Middle School, Middle Gate; and St Rose Schools of Newtown; Chalk Hill School, Monroe; Middlebrook School and St Stephenâs Youth Group of Trumbull. Residents of Ashlar, Newtown and The Village of Brookfield Commons. Daisy, Brownie and Girl Scout Troops 6, 127,138, 157, 305, 355, 371, 594, 599, 796, 804, 809, 891, Marie Walkerâs Craft Group at the Library, The Monroe Womanâs Club, The Newtown Womanâs Club and anonymous contributors.
The cards were delivered to Rocky Hill Veterans Home, the Veterans Hospital in West Haven Ashlar, the Homesteads and Walter Reed Army Hospital; others were sent to servicemen and women in Afghanistan, Africa, and Iraq.
Again thank you all for your generosity and thoughtfulness in caring for our veterans.
