Reluctant Contractor Puts The Heat On The Library
There have been days this winter when certain sections of the Cyrenius Booth
Library have grown unbearably hot.
The heating system in the building is still not properly balanced, creating
near sauna-like conditions in the children's area, according to Library
Director Janet Woycik.
"It gets up into the 70s sometimes. It's uncomfortable, especially with so
many children in there," Mrs Woycik said.
The problem has not been fixed yet because the Trane heating company has
refused to do any more work at the library until it gets paid, according to
First Selectmen Herb Rosenthal. It seems Building Technologies, Inc, (BTI) of
Prospect, the library project's general contractor, still owes the
sub-contractor money.
BTI was fired by the Board of Selectmen this past November for failing to get
enough workers on the job. The project finally opened in January, more than
six months past due.
