Candlewood Childrenâs Choir Beginning In Sherman
SHERMAN â Learning the rudiments of choral singing and making a connection with the classic composers are two of the goals of a newly-organized childrenâs choir set to begin rehearsals in Sherman on February 11. The program will run through May 20.
Candlewood Childrenâs Choir will hold auditions for all youth in third through eighth grades on Sunday, February 4, between 2 and 4 pm, at Sherman Congregational Church on Church Road. Children are advised to bring their favorite song if they have one.
Choir rehearsals will take place at Sherman Congregational Church on Sunday from 5 to 6:20 pm, from February 11 through May 20, when a final concert will be presented to the public. There will be no rehearsal on April 15.
Tuition for the 14-week course is $60 per child, or $50 each for families with two or more children.
Musical director and experienced composer and conductor Jay Trott will conduct Candlewood Childrenâs Choir. He plans to introduce singers to a variety of songs both new and old. The choirâs major emphasis, however, will be on work composed by the great masters.
Singers who join the group will gain a rudimentary knowledge of musical terms and basic sight reading skills. In addition they will gain an introduction to classical music culture, learn how to sing in an ensemble and become exposed to singing in a foreign language.
The Candlewood Childrenâs Choir is being formed by a group of Sherman residents who love music and are interested in giving youth singers the opportunity to learn the classics and to enjoy a variety of fun and challenging musical experiences.
All singers from throughout the area are welcome. For more information, call Beth Trott at 860/355-2701.
