Aurelia Named Ridgefield Firefighter/EMT Of The Year
Ridgefield Fire Department announced October 10 that Firefighter/EMT Michael Aurelia has been selected as the department’s Firefighter of the Year. The honor is sponsored by Exchange Club of Ridgefield.
Aurelia is a native of Newtown.
According to RFD, Firefighter Aurelia’s reliability, initiative, and professionalism make him “truly deserving” of this year’s recognition. A member of the department’s D Shift, Aurelia is known for his willingness to help others, share his knowledge, and step forward whenever needed.
Lieutenant Seth Kellogg described Aurelia as “a mentor for our newer members and a huge asset to the D shift,” adding that “he goes above and beyond for the Ridgefield Fire Department.”
Aurelia stands out as an expert pump operator and a specialist in technical rescue operations, skills that have strengthened the department’s capabilities in both emergency response and firefighter training.
RFD Chief Rommie L. Duckworth said Aurelia “represents exactly what this department and this town value most: quiet professionalism, pursuit of excellence, and a constant drive to serve. He’s the person you can always count on, whether it’s a major incident or a routine day around the station.”
Assistant Chief Tony Cerulli added, “Firefighter Aurelia leads by example. His skill, attitude, and commitment lift everyone around him. He’s a key part of what makes our department strong.”
Aurelia has also been serving his hometown for nearly two decades. He has been a member of Newtown Hook & Ladder Company #1 for 18 years. He recently became a part-time fire marshal for the Town of Newtown.
