Arrested On Warrant

Newtown Police report that on October 7, officers were dispatched to the area of Currituck Road and Main Street following a report of a disturbance involving an individual acting in a disorderly manner.

Upon arrival, officers identified the individual as Mariah Joy, 30, of Newtown, who was taken into custody on an active arrest warrant.

Joy was charged with second-degree breach of peace in a public place, creating a public disturbance, and second-degree stalking. She was released on a $2,500 bond with a court date of November 13.

Hit And Run

Newtown Police report Lagnojita Sinha, 35, of Monroe, operating a 2014 Subaru Forester, was traveling on Botsford Hill Road at 6:28 pm October 16. At the intersection with Meadow Brook Road, an unidentified vehicle, described as a green Toyota Rav4 with a male driver, pulled out in front of Sinha, and Sinha struck that vehicle. The unidentified vehicle fled the scene northbound on South Main Street.

No injuries were reported. Sinha’s vehicle was not towed.

Collision In Intersection

Newtown Police report Daniel Fuksov, 55, of Brooklyn, N.Y., operating a 2022 Volvo VNL tractor trailer, was traveling westbound on Church Hill Road at 2:50 pm October 23. Timothy Aronson, 37, of West Haven, operating a 1999 GMC Savana, was traveling southbound on Main Street. Fuksov approached the intersection of Church Hill Road and Main Street and stopped at the stop sign, and then began to make a left turn onto Main Street. Fuksov struck Aronson’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Fuksov was issued a written warning for failure to grant right of way at a stop sign.

Tractor Trailer Hits Tractor Trailer

Newtown Police report Paul Hubina, 67, of Southbury, operating a 2022 International tractor trailer, was traveling eastbound on Church Hill Road at 3:02 pm October 23. Yancarlos Cabrera, 36, of New York, N.Y., operating a 2002 Internation 4000 tractor trailer, was traveling southbound on Edmond Road. Cabrera stopped at the red light at the intersection of Church Hill Road. Hubina turned left onto Edmond Road, striking the front of Cabrera’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Hubina received a verbal warning for failure to maintain a lane.

Rear Ended on Sugar Street

Newtown Police report Lynsie Marks, 41, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2018 Chevrolet Equinox, was traveling westbound on Sugar Street at 3:48 pm October 29. She was traveling behind a 2016 Mercedes-Benz MI400 operated by Arlina Carias, 42, of Newtown. Carias came to a stop in the westbound lane waiting to make a left turn onto Key Rock Road. Marks did not stop in time and rear-ended Carias’ vehicle.

Carias was transported to Danbury Hospital with a possible injury. Both vehicles were towed.

Marks was issued an infraction for traveling an unreasonable distance apart.

Cell Phone Use Charge

Newtown Police report Goncalves Freitas, 19, of Bridgeport, operating a 2018 Honda Accord, was in the commercial parking lot of 133 Mt Pleasant Road at 11:16 am October 30. Andrew Wellman, 55, of Newtown, operating a 2005 Toyota Sienna, was traveling westbound on Mt Pleasant Road. Freitas left the lot and entered into the westbound travel lane of Mt Pleasant Road when it was unsafe to do so and struck Wellman’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Both vehicles were towed.

Freitas was issued an infraction for operating a motor vehicle without a license, failure to grant right of way, and improper use of a cell phone.

Hit By Branch

Newtown Police report Victor Lye, 47, of Newtown, operating a 2023 Chrysler Pacifica, was traveling northbound on Longview Heights Road at 1:45 pm October 31. A large branch fell from a tree to land across the south and northbound portions of the roadway, striking Lye’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. The vehicle was not towed.

Struck Fallen Tree

Newtown Police report Bella Cortella, 19, of Bethel, operating a 2014 Acura TSX, was traveling southbound on Barnabas Road at 7:45 pm October 31. Cortella told police that she was traveling along Barnabas Road in a dimly illuminated area, and she did not observe that a large tree had fallen due to strong winds and was blocking both travel lanes. By the time she noticed the tree, she was unable to stop in time and struck the tree.

No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.

No enforcement action was taken.

Probation Violation Charge

Newtown Police report that at 11:40 am November 2, Ethan Correia, 23, of Newtown, turned himself in to Newtown Police Department after learning of a warrant for his arrest. The warrant was for violation of probation which stemmed from an incident in Bethel. Correia was charged with Violation of Probation and released on a $500 bond with a court date of November 21 in Danbury Superior Court.

Struck Mailbox, Utility Pole

Newtown Police report Donald Eifert, 62, of Salem, N.Y., operating a 2023 Buick Envision, was traveling eastbound on Mt Pleasant Road at 1:54 pm November 2. Eifert left the eastbound roadway and the front end of the vehicle struck a mailbox and then a utility pole. Striking the utility pole caused the vehicle to flip over and come to a rest on its roof in the eastbound travel lane.

Eifert was transported to Danbury Hospital with possible injuries. The vehicle was towed.

The case is still under investigation.
