PD Seeking Witnesses To Vehicle Vs Pedestrian Fatality In Hawleyville

A person died last night after being struck by a vehicle on Hawleyville Road. The initial investigation indicates the person was struck by a vehicle they had been operating.
Details concerning the identity of the deceased person have not yet been released.
Newtown Police Department, Hawleyville Volunteer Fire Company, Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps and a paramedic all responded around 6:15 pm Thursday, November 6, to Hawleyville Road near Old Hawleyville Road for a reported vehicle vs pedestrian motor vehicle accident.
Upon arrival, first responders located bystanders who had already begun performing life saving measures on the individual lying, who was on the northbound shoulder of Hawleyville Road. The individual was later pronounced deceased on scene.
The Newtown Police Department Detective Division and Accident Reconstruction Team also responded to the scene to investigate. Hawleyville Road was closed for hours while the on-scene investigation was conducted.
At this time, it appears the individual was alone, operating a commercial motor vehicle northbound on Hawleyville Road. The individual stopped and exited the vehicle on the northbound shoulder of Hawleyville Road. The vehicle then started rolling forward. It then struck and caused fatal injuries to the individual. The vehicle came to a stop near the Exit 9 Commuter Lot.
In a statement, Newtown PD says at this time, there is no reason to believe any other vehicles were involved in this accident.
