Newtown Choral Society will be accompanied by a brass choir and a timpani when it performs its winter concert, “Songs of the Glorious Season,” Saturday, December 6, at 4 pm, at Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street.

Tickets to the concert are $15 adults, $10 for seniors and students. They are available at the door.

The concert will begin with Z. Randall Stroope’s “Hodie (This Day).” The choir, under the direction of Mary Andreotta and accompanied by Phil Crevier, will continue with songs reflecting the joys of Hannukah with “Bidi Bom.”

The choir will also perform carols from the 19th century, including “Kings of Orient,” “Silent Night,” and “The Wassall Song.”

A highlight will be a version of “Jingle Bells” that was featured on Barbra Streisand’s 1967 Christmas Album.

Finally, the audience will be invited to join the choir in “The First Nowell” and “Hark the Herald Angels Sing.” The lyrics will be in the program.

Newtown Choral Society is a community, non-audition choir founded in 1986. The choir performs two concerts a year and welcomes members from all area towns.
