Three Car Collision

Newtown Police report Clara Taylor, 22, of Monroe, operating a 2010 Subaru Outback, was traveling southbound on Berkshire Road at 11:40 am November 5. Ryan Sokira, 17, of Monroe, operating a 2014 Toyota Corolla, was stopped in southbound traffic on Berkshire Road, waiting to turn into the driveway of Newtown High School. Joanne Kenny, 55, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2019 Toyota Sienna, was stopped in southbound traffic ahead of Sokira, also waiting to turn in to the driveway of Newtown High School. Taylor rear-ended Sokira’s vehicle, which was pushed forward into Kenny’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. None of the vehicles were towed.

Taylor was issued an infraction for following too close.

Following Too Close

Newtown Police report Yentl Macias, 33, of Danbury, operating a 2003 Toyota Avalon, was stopped in traffic in the southbound lane on Dodgingtown Road at 6:13 pm November 6. She was stopped behind a 2010 Honda Civic operated by Rachel Krehel, 29, of Newtown. Macias began to move forward and struck the rear of Krehel’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Macias was issued a verbal warning for following too close.

Merged Into Car

Newtown Police report Malcolm Dance, 28, of Newtown, operating a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado, was traveling southbound on Mt Pleasant Road in the left lane at 9:59 am November 9. Santiago Santana, 60, of Danbury, operating a 2015 Honda CR-V, was traveling southbound on Mt Pleasant Road in the right lane. Dance attempted to change lanes and struck Santana’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Dance was issued an infraction for failure to maintain a lane.

Unsafe Passing

Newtown Police report Patricia Mathison, 65, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2021 Acura Rdx, was traveling westbound on Riverside Road at 7:59 am November 10. Tirrell Smith, 31, of Stamford, operating a 2019 Peterbilt 520 tractor trailer, was traveling westbound on Riverside Road ahead of Mathison, and stopped to make a left turn onto Philo Curtis Road and let vehicles exit Philo Curtis Road onto Riverside Road. Mathison though Smith had pulled to the side of the road and went around Smith’s vehicle. At that time, Smith began making a left hand turn onto Philo Curtis Road. Mathison’s vehicle made contact with Smith’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Mathison was issued a written warning for unsafe passing.

Rear Ended On Botsford Hill

Newtown Police report Keith Johnson, 51, of Ansonia, operating a 2019 Ford Transit, was traveling northbound on South Main Street at 3:16 pm November 10. David Piccolo, 43, of Stratford, operating a 2022 Ford F-150, was stopped at a red light at the intersection with Botsford Hill Road. Johnson rear-ended Piccolo’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Johnson received a verbal warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Evading Driver Found

Newtown Police report Matthew Moore, 20, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2010 Subaru Impreza, was traveling southbound on Toddy Hill Road at 4:06 pm November 10. Moore lost control of the vehicle, running off the roadway right, and collided with a mailbox and post. Following the collision, Moore left the scene. Police were informed of the incident and the vehicle was described as a black Subaru hatchback. Officers conducted an area search and, through investigative efforts including the use of license plate reader data, identified the vehicle and the owner. The vehicle and its operator were later located in the parking lot of Stop & Shop on South Main Street.

Moore admitted to striking the mailbox and leaving the scene. Moore was taken into custody and transported to Newtown Police headquarters for processing.

No injuries were reported. The vehicle was not towed.

Moore was charged with evading responsibility for a motor vehicle accident, failure to drive in the proper lane, and driving too fast for conditions.

He was released on a $1,000 non-surety bond with a court date of November 25 in Danbury Superior Court.

Struck Deer

Newtown Police report Thomas Hanlon, 77, of Newtown, operating a 2024 Hyundai Tucson, was traveling southbound on Washington Avenue at 5:42 pm November 11. A deer entered the roadway, striking Hanlon’s vehicle.

Hanlon was not injured. The vehicle was not towed.

No enforcement action was taken.

Evading Vehicle Sought

Newtown Police report Katherine Chacon, 28, of Danbury, operating a 2020 Honda HR-V, was stopped at a stop sign facing westbound on Church Hill Road, at 7:29 pm November 11. Chacon was waiting for traffic to clear to make a left onto Edmond Road. An unknown vehicle pulled alongside her vehicle in the driveway on her right side. The vehicle then attempted to turn left onto Edmond Road, striking her vehicle, before fleeing the scene. Chacon described the vehicle as a gray colored car, but could give no further description.

No injuries were reported. The vehicle was not towed.

If identified, the operator of the gray car will be charged with evading responsibility for causing property damage, and making an improper turn.

Collision In Parking Lot

Newtown Police report Zachary Fuchs, 26, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2022 Ford Escape, was parked in a marked parking space in a lot on Church Hill Road at 10:24 am November 12. An unoccupied 2016 Kia Sedona was parked in a spot across the travel area from Fuchs. Fuchs backed into the unoccupied vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.

Improper Turn

Newtown Police report Bruno Curto, 24, of Clifton, N.J., operating a 2024 Freightliner tractor trailer, was stopped on Church Hill Road at the intersection of Main Street at 3:32 pm November 12. Cleverson Leite, 48, of Newark, N.J., operating a 2017 Ford Focus, was stopped southbound on Main Street in the intersection of Church Hill Road.

Curto began to make a left turn onto Main Street and struck Leite’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Curto was issued an infraction for making an improper turn.

Hit Oncoming Vehicle

Newtown Police report Luis Patino, 50, of Danbury, operating a 2013 Hyundai Accent, was traveling on Taunton Lane at 5:03 pm November 12. Andrew Bazuro, 22, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe, was traveling in the opposite direction on Taunton Lane. Patino skidded on the slippery road and crossed the centerline, striking Bazuro’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Bazuro’s vehicle was towed.

Patino was issued an infraction for operating a motor vehicle without a license.

Collision In Intersection

Newtown Police report Alessandro Howerton, 51, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2019 Mazda CX-3, was traveling southbound on Dodgingtown Road at 6:56 pm November 12. Courtney Martin, 45, of Bethel, operating a 2023 BMW M5, was traveling westbound on Shelly Road. Barbosa began to turn left into the westbound lane on Shelly Road and struck Martin’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Howerton’s vehicle was towed.

Howerton was issued a written warning for failure to drive right.

Merge Leads To Collision

Newtown Police report Gregg Celentano, 54, of Monroe, operating a 2008 Jeep Wrangler, was traveling southbound on South Main Street at 6:30 pm November 13. David Webley, 53, of Bridgeport, operating a 2017 GMC Acadia, was also traveling southbound on South Main Street in the left most southbound lane. Celentano attempted to merge from the right southbound lane and struck Webley’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Celentano was issued a warning for failure to drive in the proper lane.

Rear Ended On Glover Avenue

Newtown Police report Elide Tramontina, 85, of Monroe, operating a 2018 Ford Escape, was traveling westbound on Glover Avenue at 1:10 pm November 16. She was traveling behind a 2014 BMW 320 Xdrive operated by Cameron Heard, 17, of Newtown. Heard stopped, and Tramontina rear-ended his vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Tramontina received a verbal warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Dog Injured By Car

Newtown Police report Shuang Zhang, 37, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe, was traveling southbound on Riverside Road at 8:57 am November 17. A dog entered the road and was struck by Zhang’s vehicle.

Zhang was not injured. The dog was transported to a veterinary hospital by its owner. The vehicle was not towed.

The dog owner was issued a written warning for allowing a dog to roam.

Deer Entered Road

Newtown Police report Lisa McNulty, 49, of Newport, operating a 2023 Toyota Corolla, was traveling eastbound on Great Hill Road at 12:18 pm November 17. A deer entered the roadway and struck McNulty’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. The vehicle was not towed.

No enforcement action was taken.
