Flags To Be Lowered Until Sunset
President Donald J. Trump has ordered flags lowered until sunset today.
The President issued a proclamation around noon today calling for flags to be lowered “As a mark of respect for the memory of Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, West Virginia Army National Guard.”
US Army Spc Beckstrom, 20, was killed November 26 after being shot while serving with the West Virginia National Guard as part of Trump’s aggressive crime-fighting plan that federalized the D.C. police force, the Associated Press reported.
US Air Force Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, was also shot during the incident a few blocks from The White House. He is reportedly still in critical but stable condition.
The Department of Justice has charged a 29-year-old Afghan national first-degree murder while armed, assault with intent to kill while armed, and two counts of possession of a firearm during a crime of violence.
Trump’s proclamation calls for flags to remain lowered until sunset today. Since no flag should fly higher than the US flag, all other flags, including state, municipal, corporate, or otherwise, should also be lowered.
Funeral service details for Beckstrom had not been announced as of yesterday. A post on the Facebook page for Dodd & Reed Funeral Home in Webster Springs, W.V., only says her family is requesting donations to Nicholas Co. Humane Society in Summersville, W.V., or The Wounded Warrior Project in lieu of flowers.
