Flagpole Photographers To Open New Year With Munno & ‘Zen Of Landscape Photography’
Flagpole Photographers will kick off the new year with “The Zen of Landscape Photography,” an inspiring presentation by photographer John Munno.
This free, public event will explore how landscape photography can capture not only scenic beauty, but also emotion, story, and the healing power of nature. The program will be offered on Thursday, January 8, at 7:30 pm, at Newtown Senior Center, 8 Simpson Street.
Munno’s lifelong connection to the outdoors began in childhood and deepened through years of work as a wilderness guide, white water rafting guide, and ski instructor, as well as extensive travel to remote natural landscapes around the world. With a background in forestry, holistic healing, and photography, he brings a unique perspective shaped by decades of immersion in nature.
His “healing photo art” is featured in hospitals and medical facilities across Connecticut, including UConn John Dempsey Hospital and Yale Greenwich Hospital, where his images support well-being and restoration.
Flagpole Photographers will then host its monthly competition night on Thursday, January 22, beginning at 7:30 pm (social time at 7), both in person at the senior center and online. Categories include Nature, Open Color, Open Monochrome, Assigned Subject, and Monthly Challenge.
The January theme is White on White, with a Monthly Challenge of Sunrise/Sunset.
Flagpole Photographers is a nonprofit camera club open to photographers of all experience levels. Meetings and competitions are free to attend, with members enjoying additional opportunities including workshops, field trips, community programs, and annual exhibits.
A member field trip to the New York Botanical Gardens is planned for this month.
