Town & Country Garden Club of Newtown invites readers to consider joining it this year.

Experience the camaraderie of a small, close-knit but active garden club, with free membership through May 2026 (membership dues $40 annually thereafter).

For those interested in gardening in any of its forms, this is an opportunity to learn from some of the best — Town & Country has seasoned gardeners in all areas of gardening — without pressure or commitment.

Established 60 years ago, Town & Country is a staple of Newtown. Members enjoy monthly programs (open to the public), flower arranging workshops (conducted by fellow club members), tours of member gardens, field trips, social events including a summer picnic and holiday party, being present at many Newtown community events, as well as offering well-established, healthy perennials — carefully and lovingly nurtured and divided by members — for purchase at the annual plant sale at Cyrenius H. Booth Library, and maintain the Newtown Borough traffic islands (appreciated by countless residents).

The club has won numerous awards through the years, including Flower Shows, Horticulture, Civic Development, Good Deeds, Newsletter, and other honors, through the Federated Garden Clubs of CT, which includes more than 65 clubs; and more recently for imaginative, fun-made exhibits at the Newtown Parks & Recreation Halloween Scarecrow Contest.

Members care strongly for each other and support each other through life’s ups and downs, and are constantly learning from one another and the diversity of monthly programs.

The club is looking to grow. To learn more about the energetic and welcoming Town & Country Garden Club of Newtown, visit tcgardenclub.org or email the membership chair at townandcountrygardenclubct@gmail.com. Readers are also invited to join the club for its free flower arranging workshop during the next club meeting on Wednesday, February 11, at 7 pm, at Newtown Senior Center, 8 Simpson Street.

Tours of member gardens are among the features of membership in Town & Country Garden Club.
