Following the enthusiastic response to its inaugural Candlelight Quartet Concert last season, Waterbury Symphony Orchestra will return to Edmond Town Hall, 45 Main Street, on Saturday evening, February 14. The 2nd Annual Candlelight Quartet Concert will be a Valentine’s Day performance featuring the music of Fleetwood Mac, Eagles, and Queen, presented in the glow of 2,000 candles.

The intimate evening will showcase WSO’s professional string quartet led by Concertmaster Alyce Cognetta Bertz. The audience will be treated to a night of timeless classics and glowing ambiance as the quartet performs the music of three groups as never heard before.

The audience will be swept away by the elegance of strings paired with the unmistakable soul of rock ‘n’ roll — an atmosphere that is intimate, moody, and magical. Designed especially for Valentine’s Day, the concert offers an experience that is both emotionally rich and visually striking.

The program features a sweeping, candlelit journey through legendary songs, arranged for strings, including “Landslide,” “Rhiannon,” “The Chain,” and “Songbird” by Fleetwood Mac, “Desperado,” “Take It Easy,” “Hotel California,” and “Lyin’ Eyes” by the Eagles, and “Crazy Little Thing Called Love,” “Another One Bites the Dust,” “We Will Rock You,” and “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen.

WSO launched its Candlelight Concerts during the 2024-25 season, which also marked the opening of its new Edmond Town Hall Series. That inaugural concert drew audiences from across the region and established the string quartet by candlelight concert format as a distinctive addition to WSO’s programming. The Valentine’s Day performance builds on that success, continuing the orchestra’s commitment to presenting intimate, accessible concerts that broaden the orchestral experience.

Tickets are $40 each, plus standard booking fees. Newtown residents can purchase tickets online for $32 each by using the coupon code FONS.

Visit waterburysymphony.org. For additional information call 203-346-2000.

The concert begins at 7 pm. Seating is limited and offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

In keeping with the orchestra’s strong ties to the communities it serves, WSO will also be collecting donations for Newtown’s own House of Harrison, supporting its mission to provide supplies to individuals experiencing homelessness, transitioning from treatment, or facing hard times, providing daily essentials that offer comfort, confidence, and hope for a new beginning.

Specific donations requested include packs of underwear, socks, hats, gloves, and packs of personal care and/or bathroom essentials for their “blessing bag” drives which they compile and hand out to the homeless.

Creating music since 1938, Waterbury Symphony Orchestra’s core belief is that music, music education, and shared cultural experiences are essential for humanity. Artistically led by Music Director Leif Bjaland, now in his 31st year with the Symphony, WSO draws more than one hundred professional musicians from across New England and serves communities throughout Connecticut through performances, partnerships, and award-winning education programs.

Lynne Farah, founder of House of Harrison, holds a blessing bag, usually filled with hats, gloves, socks, underwear, and personal care and/or bathroom essentials, which are then handed out to the homeless. Farah is hoping attendees of next weekend’s WSO Candlelight Quartet Concert will offer donations for the nonprofit organization.
