Newtown Winter Percussion, Winter Guard To Host Annual Winter Extravaganza
Newtown Winter Percussion and Winter Guard is gearing up for its annual Winter Extravaganza Home Show on Saturday, February 28, in the gymnasium of Newtown High School, 12 Berkshire Road.
Doors open for the percussion competition at noon and the show officially starts at 1 pm, with Newtown’s percussion ensemble performing “Mondrian” at 2:09 pm. The senior recognition and awards will take place at 2:45 pm, after all nine teams compete.
The Winter Guard competition will start at 4 pm, with Newtown’s junior varsity team performing at 4:49 pm and the varsity team performing at 7:47 pm. The night will conclude with another round of senior recognition and awards after all 28 teams compete.
Admission is $18 for adults and $10 for seniors 65+ and children under 10. Cash, credit cards, and Venmo for admissions and café purchases will be accepted. Food, baked goods, candy, air-grams, and tickets for a 50/50 raffle will also be available for purchase.
Proceeds will help support local musicians and performers who are Newtown students.
This year’s Newtown Winter Percussion is comprised of 29 members from grades seven through twelve. Their entertaining and vibrant routine showcases a front ensemble, battery, and brass soloist.
The Junior Varsity Winter Guard has 18 members from grades five through nine and will perform its high-octane show “Knock-out!” at the extravaganza.
The Varsity Guard, which has nine members from grades eight through twelve, will entertain the audience with its energetic show, “Uni-.” Both Guard teams illustrate skills using flags, rifles, and sabers in intricate and compelling moves.
