To The Editor:

I am writing as a retired RN with over 48 years of experience. Over three quarters of that was hospice care. The following are questions I have for the Commission on Aging (COA):

Newtown COA has supported MAID (Medical Assistance in Dying) and ignored Hospice Care. How is this not bias?

Information from professionals is needed, not opinions or testimonies. Where are the speakers from CT Hospice or the Regional Hospice? What are the common misconceptions about hospice care in terms of pain management and symptom control? Is there a difference between pain and suffering? Where is the attorney speaking on the importance of Advance Directives and the need for Medical Power of Attorney?

Do Advance Directives have an expiration date? Where is the social worker speaking on the grief process — what is normal and what isn't? What is complicated grief? Where is the state representative explaining the current status of the Medicare Hospice Benefit?

Why would a senior want to belong to an organization that advocates hastening their demise? Last year, Senior Services received a budget increase of $10,000. Has that money been spent wisely?
