Freshman Trevor Stott Throws Complete Game, Pitches NHS One Win From Title
BETHEL — Newtown High freshman pitcher Trevor Stott delivered in a big-time spot. He threw a three-hit complete game as the Nighthawk baseball team took down top seed Bethel 7-2 in the South-West Conference Tournament semifinals on May 26.
Stott allowed on three hits, both runs were unearned, he walked just one, and struck out seven. Newtown, the bracket's No 4 seed, will face No. 2 New Fairfield in the Thursday, May 28, championship game back in Bethel; first pitch is at 6:30 p.m.
Leadoff batter Travis Rekos got the offense going with a triple to start the game. He scored on a wild pitch for a 1-0 lead.
Walsh singled and Rekos doubled to drive in a run ad Rekos then advaned on a Luke Libero single and scored on another wild pitch for a 3-0 lead in the second.
After Bethel got on the board with its two runs, the Hawks answered with a run in the third. Lucian Place led off with a single and came around to score on a Ryan Schmidt single later in the frame for a 4-2 lead.
Libero singled and scored on a Kieran Garrity double for a 5-2 advantage in the fourth. Place added a two-run single in the sixth.
