Holiday Closings & Special Hours: Independence Day
Most entities will be affected by Independence Day on Saturday, July 4.
Town offices will be closed on Friday, July 3. Newtown Senior Center will also be closed on Friday.
C.H. Booth Library and Newtown Community Center will be closed on Saturday.
The transfer station will be closed Friday. The transfer station will have regular hours — 7 am-3 pm — on Saturday, July 4. Public Works Director Frederick Hurley confirmed those hours with The Newtown Bee this week.
“We spoke with the guys, and they’ll swap out among themselves if they have plans already for Saturday, but we will be open for the full day on Saturday,” Hurley said June 23.
Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles offices continue to operate by appointment only. Appointments will be available on Friday, July 3, between 7:30 am and 12:30 pm. No appointments are being scheduled for Saturday, July 4. Visit portal.ct.gov/DMV to schedule one or to view the list of available online services.
There will be no regular mail delivery/pickup or retail services for the United States Postal Service on Saturday.
All Federal Reserve banks and branches (most banks) will also be closed Saturday.
Deadlines & Delivery
The Bee Publishing Company offices will be closed on Friday, July 3. The office will reopen Monday, July 6, at 8 am.
Advertising and Editorial deadlines for the Friday, July 3, 2026 print edition of The Newtown Bee are not affected.
The paper will be printed on Thursday, July 2, and delivered to local vendors that afternoon. It will also be delivered that afternoon to the post office for distribution to subscribers.
