Preserving Our Principles
To The Editor:
If you’ve read our Declaration of Independence, you’ll know that our country was founded with the proclamation that we are each endowed by our Creator with certain unalienable rights. Yes, here in the US, the government doesn’t give us rights, we are born with rights including life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Our U.S. and Connecticut Constitutions were created to establish governments that would secure these blessings of liberty.
With that in mind, it’s harrowing to see socialists being elected in this country!
How does this sound to you? No border control, no U.S. Senate, having Congress elect the president and the Supreme Court justices, no police departments or prisons, no more private ownership of major businesses and industries. These are just a few of the things Democratic Socialists of America and their radical allies are calling for. To me, this sounds like anarchy, which would necessitate authoritarian rule.
Perhaps authoritarianism is the unspoken ultimate goal of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA). As Vladimir Lenin once said, “The goal of socialism is communism.” Lenin’s communist utopia was responsible for millions of Russian deaths due to such things as famines, murders for political or religious reasons, workers killed for striking, and the suppression of uprisings.
You might say, well, none of our Democratic candidates are DSA. While that may (or may not) be true, the DSA and radical left-wing activist groups are very well funded by anti-Western billionaires, so more-moderate Democrats are starting to lean in their direction.
Be careful who, and therefore, what you vote for. If you love this country for the principles on which it was founded 250 years ago, be sure to vote, and vote Republican. They’re the party that works to protect our unalienable rights, rather than stoking our resentments.
