To The Editor:

What do we want from our elected representatives? These days it’s hard to find a politician who is honest, hard working, competent and truly dedicated to the people they serve rather than their political party. Michelle Embree Ku has demonstrated those qualities throughout her years of service to Newtown.

Michelle has held leadership positions on the Board of Education, Board of Selectmen, and Legislative Council. She understands municipal budgets, education, development, and the relationship between decisions made in Hartford and the property taxes paid by local residents.

She also understands that effective leadership requires both conviction and collaboration. Newtown needs someone who will question poorly designed state policies, advocate for fair funding, and work across town and party lines to achieve results. Simply opposing legislation is not enough; our representative must be capable of proposing better solutions and building the support needed to enact them.

Michelle’s scientific background shapes her thoughtful and evidence-based approach. She studies the details, considers competing perspectives, and is not afraid to ask hard questions. That combination of preparation and backbone will serve Newtown well.

This election is an opportunity to choose a proven local leader who is ready to represent our entire community. I am confident Michelle Embree Ku will be an effective and principled voice for Newtown, and I am proud to endorse her.
