The Democratic Myth

To The Editor:

Though Democratic politicians are very proud of how they have run the state, ranking 34th in the economy and 44th in cost of living (2026 CNBC) doesn’t seem very good to me. Most assuredly, these dismal numbers derive from Democratic politicians always resorting to their favorite T word, "Tax," to solve any problem. Having one of the highest gas prices of all the states due to our high gas tax may be example number one.

Even in Newtown we see the issue. Remember when the Democrats took over the Legislative Council with a 9-3 majority, and each of the first two years we were saddled with 6%+ budget increases, higher than the inflation rate?!

Their other favorite words include OPEN as in borders and DEFUND as in the police or ICE. They are now embarrassed about the former defund the police slogan because it was such a bad idea, but not embarrassed enough to decline to bring it up again for another law enforcement agency. Biden let in 15-20 million immigrants with virtually no vetting but according to the Democratic politicians they all must stay even if they have a criminal past or Islamist ties. It doesn’t seem to matter if they are currently terrorizing someone or creating predictable chaos.

Democratic politicians say they love the Constitution. Well, sure, when they have the majority. As soon as they lose at the ballot box they want to end the Electoral College, pack the Supreme Court and add 3 or 4 new states. Do you think that being a Sanctuary state is respecting our laws or the Constitution? Plus it makes our state less safe for our kids and our families.

Campaigning Democratic politicians say they feel your pain even though their policies led to the highest inflation in decades (over 9%) during the Biden years. They say this, hoping you won’t remember the fact that they voted en masse (yes, Jahana Hayes included) to oppose No Tax on Tips and No Tax on Overtime and opposed, for months (while you were stuck at the airport), two budgets in a row proposed by the Trump administration and the Republicans. In fact, the only tax reduction they voted for, the increase in the state and local tax deduction to $40,000, primarily helps the rich. How ironic!

In Connecticut, the only reason we have a fiscal guardrail in place is because in 2017 the Republicans and Democrats were tied 17-17 in the Senate and, ultimately, passed the Republican budget to create a Rainy Day fund, which is saving the state’s finances for now.

When will Connecticut and the nation get wise to their Democratic shenanigans? Do we want to go back to vaccine mandates for ineffective vaccines that cost people their jobs? Do we want to be taxed more? Do we want more regulation?

Do we want criminal aliens released into our communities? These questions will be answered with your vote in November.
