To The Editor:

My last letter to the editor covered Mitch Bolinsky’s refusal to debate our Democratic Contender Michelle Embree Ku because “he had nothing to gain from it.” An utter disservice to the voters. However, after witnessing the performance at the recent debate in Fairfield between the two candidates vying for the State Senate Seat, Republican Amybeth LaRoche and Democrat Rob Blanchard, I can see why Mr. Bolinsky would not want to risk that his answers on tough questions on such things as affordability, healthcare and the environment would fall way short of constituent expectations.

The Fairfield debate was a perfect example of what voters can gain; yes what the VOTERS can gain, because it is not about what our politicians can gain, Mr. Bolinsky!

The Fairfield debate allowed the voters to see that Rob Blanchard is a candidate who is well informed on the issues, confident, poses solutions and is ready to lead. His Republican opponent was vague on solutions, high on acrimony and woefully underwhelming on preparation. Her closing remarks were read from a poorly delivered script. Mr. Blanchard had facts at his fingertips, spoke out of knowledge and experience and demonstrated an ability to represent from day one.

It is time for capable, well versed people to represent Newtown. Through her performance, Ms. LaRoche demonstrated that she is not ready for prime time. Mitch Bolinsky won his seat by a mere 45 vote margin fourteen years ago. Must we continue to send him to Hartford out of habit or can we embrace the much needed energy and ability that Michelle Embree Ku has to offer?

I say it is time for a change. Vote early or on November 3, and vote for Rob Blanchard and Michelle Embree Ku!
