Newtown High School's field hockey team, the No 6 seed, gave host and No 3 Joel Barlow of Redding all it could handle in the South-West Conference Tournament quarterfinals before falling 2-1 on October 26.

Evelynn Schoen scored on a penalty stroke for the lone Nighthawk tally, and goaltender Stella Wasley made a whopping 20 saves to keep the Nighthawks in the game. Newtown Coach Megan Goyda said the entire team played well with Charlotte Grasso, Kaylin Pimentel, Claire Caico, and Riley Gerrish (with two defensive saves) making notable contributions.
