Tibetan Buddhist Monks To Offer Prayers At Yoga Center

WOODBURY —  On Friday and Saturday, February 23-24, eight Tibetan monks from Drepung Gomang Monastery in South India will be at Woodbury Yoga Center, offering a cultural program of prayers for world peace, healing, and prosperity.

Chanted in traditional overtones, each monk creates a full chord of three notes, often accompanied by delicate hand gestures, symbols, drums, horns and flutes. Everyone is welcome for an experience of mystical prayers, chanting and spiritual wisdom.

Friday’s event will begin at 7 pm with light refreshments. The monks’ prayers begin at 7:30 pm, and will be followed by questions and answers. On Saturday, light refreshments will be available at 4 pm, followed by prayers at 4:30 and questions and answers. Children and families are welcome.

A $15 donation either day is suggested to help support the monks’ Tibetan monastery-in-exile in South India and preserve the endangered Tibetan culture. Every year, additional monks escape from Tibet, seeking refuge in the monastery.

Woodbury Yoga Center, at 122 West Side Road, can be reached for additional information by calling 203-263-2254.
