Winnifred M. McMahon
Winnifred “Winnie” M. McMahon, RN, 87, of Derby, wife of the late James T. McMahon, died December 9 at the Jewish Home for the Elderly inFairfield. She was born in New York City March 7, 1926, and was the daughter of the late Margaret (McDonald) and John O’Keefe.
Her sons and spouses John J. and Ellen McMahon of Newtown, James T. and Teresa McMahon of New Milford, and Mark F. and Deborah McMahon of Naugatuck and five grandchildren survive Mrs McMahon. Three infant children, Patricia Anne, William, and Thomas; a brother, John O’Keefe, and sister, Theresa Gross, predeceased her.
She grew up in Madison and then lived in Derby for more than 50 years.
Mrs McMahon was a graduate of St Raphael’s Nursing School, New Haven, Class of 1947, and was a pediatric nurse for more than 30 years in Griffin Hospital, Derby, until her retirement.
She and her late husband were loyal parishioners of St Jude Church since its conception in the city of Derby. She was an avid fan of the UConn basketball teams, and had close friends that she kept up relationships with during her lifetime, because she felt when you have a true friend, you treasure them for life.
On Saturday December 14, friends are invited to go directly to St Jude Church, 71 Pleasant View Road, Derby, for a Mass of Christian Burial at noon. Burial will follow at Mt St Peter’s Cemetery, Derby. Calling hours will take place Thursday December 12, from 3 to 8 pm, in the James T. Toohey & Son Funeral Home, 92 Howe Avenue, Shelton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St Jude Church.
