Trudeau Charged With Larceny And Forgery
WESTPORT -- Westport police have charged William Trudeau, Jr, 34, of South
Main Street, Newtown, with larceny and forgery in connection with the alleged
cashing of illegal checks.
Westport Police Public Information Officer George Marks said Wednesday Mr
Trudeau turned himself in at the Westport Police Station March 28 after
learning that police had two outstanding warrants for his arrest.
Mr Marks said police charged Mr Trudeau with one count each of second-degree
larceny and third-degree forgery.
The arrest comes as a result of a complaint filed with police February 24 by
an employee of People's Bank. The bank is next to the Super Stop & Shop
supermarket on Post Road East.
The employee reported that Mr Trudeau had illegally cashed a $2,800 check from
another now-defunct bank.
Police said Mr Trudeau was allowed to have access to the business account that
was named on the check after he claimed to be a trustee of the company, which
he had been at one time.
Police said Mr Trudeau also was wanted in connection with two similar
incidents at the same bank branch for allegedly cashing two other checks for
$4,000 and $1,500 on January 22.
Police released Mr Trudeau on a $3,000 bond.
He is scheduled to be arraigned on the charges before a judge April 7 in
Norwalk Superior Court.
Shooting Investigation Continues
Newtown police are still investigating a January 2 nighttime drive-by shooting
in which Mr Trudeau was shot in the leg at Trudeau Service Center at 49 South
Main Street.
Large-caliber bullets and bullet fragments were recovered at the scene, and
police say they are still waiting for the results of forensic tests on that
evidence.
Police believe that the shooting incident stems from one of Mr Trudeau's
business relationships.
