ON THE ROAD FOR OCTOBER 3

RAY DAVIES, who has been touring for a few months as "The Storyteller" -

telling stories from his book of a similar name, performing some songs from

his solo career and others from Kinks days - will be at the Oakdale Theatre in

Wallingford on Wednesday, October 22. Show time is 7:30 pm. The performance

will be cabaret-style, with all seats general admission.

Tickets are on sale for this show already, as are tickets for

previously-announced dates by STEVE WINWOOD (this Sunday night) and BLUES

TRAVELER (October 27).

The October 21 concert by YES at The Meadows in Hartford will be the first

date of the band's new tour. MOTLEY CRUE, who is about to embark on a reunion

tour that hits the Worcester Centrum on October 25, will be at The Meadows in

early December. No specific date yet, so no tickets yet, either.

The fall theatre tour for SARAH McLAUGHLIN, with growing underground favorite

MADELEINE PEYROUX, comes only as close as Madison Square Garden, October

14-15. Maybe we'll get lucky and she'll turn it into a fall-winter-spring

tour, and add Connecticut to her itinerary.

PAT BENATAR returns to the state this fall. After opening (and playing a

kickin' set!) for STYX at the Oakdale in June, Benatar will be at Toad's Place

on November 2. It will be her first club date in Connecticut in decades, and

judging from the reaction of those who turned out to see her in Wallingford,

it should prove to be a very popular show.

Also new at the New Haven club are dates by GOLDFINGER, SAVE FERRIS and KARA'S

FLOWERS, October 26; SEVEN MARY THREE, November 3; and THE NIXONS, November

23.

For those who are worried that the written word is taking a side seat to

television, it should be noted that magazines are performing bullishly when it

comes to revenues. Which means we are reading a lot of magazines.

But here's the irony: The top magazine of 1996, according to Folio , a

magazine about magazine management, was TV Guide . For the second straight

year, television's weekly magazine recorded more than $1 billion in revenues.

Am I the only one who sees the irony here? Until next week, I'll be seeing

you... on the road.
