Melanie Lynn Beck, daughter of Rose Ann and Donald Beck and a 2006 Newtown High School graduate, graduated magna cum laude from Ithaca College, Ithaca, N.Y., with a bachelor of fine arts degree in acting on May 23. She was also a member of the Oracle Honor Society. Melanie is spending her summer in Burlington, Vt., teaching acting at the School of Cenema and Performing Arts Camp (SOCAPA). After teaching for the summer, Melanie plans to perform at the Hangar Theater in Ithaca in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, as Olive.

Amanda Jurasek of Sandy Hook graduated from Rider University, Lawrenceville, N.J., with a bachelor of arts degree.

Alexandra V. Konneker received a bachelor of science degree from Manhattan College, Riverdale, N.Y., during May 23 commencement exercises for the school.

Fairfield College Preparatory School, Fairfield, announced its Final Honors 2009-2010 awarded to students living in Newtown and Sandy Hook recently. Included in the list as summa cum laude recipients are Connor E. Byrne, Kevin J. Culligan, Joshua J. Jowdy, and Daniel B. O’Rourke. Listed as magna cum laude recipients were Sofian Ahtchi-Ali, Ryan P. Cahalane, Timothy N. Culligan, Jack A. Curry, Rob M. Franzino, Andrew J. Golankiewicz, Michael P. Gould, and Michael T. Kirk. Students who earned the distinction of cum laude were David F. Gerics, Nicholas P. Martinez, Jack W. McManus, and Ryan C. O’Keefe.

Students named on the fourth quarter honor roll listings for Lauralton Hall, Milford, were released recently. Sophomores  Nicole Lang  and Kally Ann McCarthy of Sandy Hook, and juniors Megan Murphy and Katherine Siroky were named on the school’s high honors list. Sophomores Mary Siroky of Newtown, and Cristina Gould, Alexandra Hamar, Sarah Wilkie, and Amanda Watson, all from Sandy Hook, junior Emily Marussich of Sandy Hook, and seniors Caitline Kalbacher and Shannon McCarthy of Sandy Hook were named to the school’s honor list. Founded in 1905, the Academy of Our Lady of Mercy, Lauralton Hall, is the oldest college preparatory high school for girls in Connecticut. More than 400 students from throughout New Haven and Fairfield Counties attend.

 John Nelson, Jordyn Good of Sandy Hook, and Kyle Hufziger of Sandy Hook were named to the Dean’s List for the 2010 spring semester at Villanova University, Villanova, Penn.
