SENIOR BOYS
Redding Gold 8, Newtown White 5 â The locals dominated on ground balls (23â14) and time of possession, but fell to Redding. Justin Brophy scored two goals as Brendan McNamara, Cory Fisher, and Chris Tenney each scored one. Trey Trudell handed out two assists while Colin Morris and Matt Vavrek notched one apiece. Justin Spath was stellar in goal, making nine saves on RELaxâs 20 shots.
Newtown White 10, Bethel B 1 â Matt Vavrek scored two goals and had one assist to lead Newtown past Bethek. Colin Morris doled out two assists and scored a goal. Michael Lord and Brendan McNamara each had one goal and one assist as individual tallies came from Andrew Cebry, Ryan Brown, Chris Tenny, Austin Bonadio, and Jacob Enriquez.
Westport B 5, Newtown Blue 4 â Sixteen saves from goalie Matt Grace were not enough to overcome an opening game loss for Newtown in Westport. Thomas DiLuoffo had two goals, Liam Ferguson had two assists and Nick Pedalino and Brandon Cusmano both scored goals. Matt Genovese and Travis LeBlanc each had an assist as Kyle Gallatin scooped six ground balls. Ted Benoit played brilliantly as a relief man in goal during the first quarter.
Newtown Blue 8, Ridgefield Orange 4 â Nate Coleman scored three goals to lead the Blues to their first victory in two games. Brandon Cusmano scored twice and had one assist as Nick Pedalino, Travis LeBlanc and James Radcliffe had goals. Matt Genovese excelled in the midfield while Dave Kreshpan was a dominating force on defense, scooping six ground balls. Goalie Matt Grace made 16 saves.
Guilford A 7, Newtown Gold 5 â Despite three goals from Mike Zaccaro, the Newtown offense never got untracked as the Golden Boys lost their season opener at Treadwell Park. Connor Byrne and Kyle Vignone also scored. Brandon Body made six saves in goal and Max Nacewicz was solid on defense.
Newtown Gold 15, Litchfield Hills 2 â Lewis Thompson had three goals and two assists while Mike Zaccaro had four goals and an assist and Will Northrop had four assists and eight ground balls to lead Newtown to the win. Connor Byrne scored three goals and had an assist as Ryan Korth scored two goals and assisted on another. Connor Halloran, Scott Wexler, and Kyle Vignone all scored goals, and C.J. Ryan had an assist. Thomas Murphy provided two assists.
SENIOR GIRLS
Newtown Gold â In their first action of the season, the Newtown Senior Girls Gold lacrosse team swept the competition at the prestigious Greenwich Jamboree on Sunday with wins over Suffield (5-3), Greenwich (7-1), John Jay (7-5) and Larchmont (7-4). Shannon Paproski (nine saves) and Jill Jagoe (eight saves) were excellent in the goal. Nicole Gindraux, Jocelyn Toll, Maggie Korth, and Kelly OâConnor played great D as Sara Attanasio (nine ground balls), Kaitlin Brophy, Emma Kingsley, Erin Brown, Kaitlyn Vos Winkel, Molly Mahony, Evelyn Fahey and Rachel Hyland played well in the midfield. Brophy, Liz Emerson, Meredith Bridges, Katie Canavan, Vos Winkel, Brown and Mahony sparked the offense.

Newtown Gold 5, Cheshire Black 4 â The locals improved to 3-0 with an impressive win over Cheshire. Evan Issacs had a spectacular game in the cage.. Graham Derrickson had two goals as Danny Hebert, Cody Ryan, and Parker Rodbell each had a goal. Chris Erickson was the ground ball leader of the day.
Newtown Blue 11, Danbury Black 3 â Chase Hutchison scored four goals (three in the first quarter) to lead Newtown to the win. Tommy Gleason scored three goals while Max Lopez scored twice and John Meyers and Owen Bowler had individual tallies. Stephen Walsh, Anders Fogelberg, and Hutchison all had assists.
Newtown Blue 4, Cheshire Silver 3 â Chase Hutchison, Tommy Gleason, Owen Bowler and Stephen Walsh scored goals to lead Newtown. Hutchison and Max Lopez were human vacuum cleaners, combining for 21 ground balls. Anders Fogelberg, KC Condon, and Dan Ansari were catalysts in the win. Lopez, Fogelberg and John Meyers all dished out assists.
JUNIOR GIRLS
Newtown Blue 11, Southbury 1 â Brittany Boggs made seven saves in goal while Paige Murphy, Maggie Kost and Amanda Crowell were tremendous on defense to lead Newtown past Southbury. Lauren Harrison and Emily Maher had three ground balls each. Meaghan Harkins, Maddie Fletcher, Tressa Scott, Julie LaPerch and Nina Pedalino scored the goals.
Newtown Blue 12, Danbury 3 â Shannon Devaney, Kristie Vos Winkel, Erin Kenning, Sidney Hansen and Jaclyn Dailey all scored the lead Newtown past Danbury. Britteny Emslie had two assists and Melissa Christiano scooped up three ground balls. Jillianne Lyons picked off three passes on defense in the win.
Newtown Blue 12, Shelton 1 â Jillianne Lyon made four saves in goal while Melissa Christiano and Sidney Hansen had two assists a piece to psark the win. Emily Maher and Amanda Crowell had three ground balls each. Julie La Perch, Meaghan Harkins, Kristie Vos Winkel and Jaclyn Dailey scored the goals.
New Fairfield 4, Newtown Gold 2 â Carley Ferris and Bryanna LeBlanc scored in a tight loss to New Fairfield. Mary Beth Semosky, Brittany Cologna and Nicole Rothenburg kept the pressure up on attack while Anna Northrop, Katie McManus, and Kelly OâConnell played great defense and added control from the midfield.
BANTAM BOYS
Newtown Gold 7, Danbury 1 â Bubba Condon, Conrad Morris, Michael Braddick, Brandon Powell, Nolan Fisher and Jake Lambert all scored goals to lead Newtown to the win. CJ Dunn and Alex Klang anchored the defense and held the Danbury attack at bay.
Newtown Gold 13, Litchfield Hills 4 â The Bantam boys won 14 of 17 face offs and the battle for ground balls in the win. Colin Smalkais, Andrew Tousignant and Robby Lasher scored multiple goals as Colin Reilly and Matthew Bouton scored their first goals of the year. Bradley Kretz and Christian Hoffman were leaders on ground balls and face offs while Tommy Rahr led the defense with several good checks.

Bantam Boys
Navy 1, Hofstra 0 â Joey Santella scored the lone goal to lift Navy. Colin Morrissey, Cyril Brown and Christopher Brown sparked the D. For Hofstra, great stick handling from Garrett Whaley and precision passing from Matt Elias kept the pressure on the Navy defense. Goalie Scott Bauer made several key saves in the second half.
Syracuse 6, Carolina 1 â Ryan Marusiâs strong play in front of the cage and Charlie Christoâs tireless work digging groundballs provided Syracuse with a number of scoring opportunities in a win over Carolina. Harry Depuy anchored the defense. For Carolina, Nick Rubino and Patrick Heinlein helped power the offense as Patrick Conteâs quick stick provided Carolina with itâs only goal of the day.
Harvard 3, Dartmouth 2 â Sean Ferris and Jeremy Doski scored early to lift Harvard to the win. Joshua Headen sparked the defense as goalie Michael Roche the necessary vision to make several outstanding saves. For Dartmouth, Sam Cox, Stephen Ferrigno and Aidan Bowler had strong performances.
Navy 8, Dartmouth 7 â Jonathan Rospenda scored a pair of goals to help lift Navy to the win. Kyle Mangold and Mike Cirone worked throughout the game for ground balls. For Dartmouth, Austin LeBlanc was able to find find the back of the cage on multiple occasions . Stewart Olson and Clay Gattey played well.
Harvard 6, Carolina 1 â Quinn Helmig scored several goals to pace Harvard. Scott Mcleanâs play on both ends of the field, along with Matt Hessâs goal tending, kept Carolinaâs offense at bay. For Carolina, Mitchell Savoca did a nice job supporting the offense as Andrew Svanda found a passing lane early in the third quarter to set-up Owen Gray for Carolinaâs only goal.
Hofstra 4, Syracuse 2 â Peyton Manning and Steven Faxlanger anchored Hofstraâs defense and kept Syracuse from attacking the crease and Jared Pearsonâs two goals proved to be the difference in the final score. For âCuse, Matt Myers was solid in the cage. Zach Amueller scored his first goal of the season as Charlie Fletcher provided an assist and several ground balls.
