Occupation: I’m a firefighter with the City of Stamford, and I have a little carpentry business on the side, doing smaller jobs.

Family: I’ve been married to Kirstin for 24 years, as of this month.

Pets: We have a gaggle of dogs. Three Labs and a Chihuahua mix. Our Labs are Aerial, Tucker, and Yukon, and the Chihuahua is Misty. We adopted Misty when my mom moved into Maplewood. She’s a feisty little thing.

How long have you lived in Newtown? We’ve lived here for 23 years. It’s a neat little place. It’s got a mural of the property that is over the fireplace, painted around 1945. I preserved it with a piece of plywood over it when we renovated. It’s signed by someone named Lascari.

What do you like to do in your free time? I’m a member of Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps, and my big project is the new building. I head up the building committee and that is taking up an enormous amount of time. I’ve gotten into running and individual sports, like snow skiing. I do stair climbing fundraisers for the American Lung Association. You go to buildings in different cities and climb with all of the fire gear on. It’s brutal! I like movies, and I do some reading.

Do you have a favorite author or movie? Probably the author I’ve read the most is Stephen King. Right now, I’m reading how to make beer. I like the Pulp Fiction and Shawshank Redemption type movies, and the odd movie.

Do you have a favorite travel destination? Maine has always been a favorite place in the US, or California. But it’s between Norway and Scotland as far as places to go. Kirstin’s family is from Norway. People there are so friendly. In Scotland, people are so genuine and nice; a person will hear you talking and realize you are American. They’ll walk across the street to talk to you.

What is the best thing about Newtown? The people here are cool. There is a diversity that I don’t think most people realize. There’s a lot of history here, and people are proud of this town. I like being with Newtown Volunteer Ambulance — there is such a difference in the personalities of people.

Who has been the greatest influence in your life? I would have to say some of the officers I met, early on in my career. Lieutenant Bill Buttery just passed, and he was just a gentleman and a good guy. And my Aunt Wanda was a big influence. I looked up to her. She was a little different from my family, and I liked her outlook on life.

Do you have a personal philosophy? Take life seriously, but not too, too seriously. And try to treat people the way you’d like to be treated. Don’t judge others.

Do you have a guilty pleasure? A glass of single malt Scotch and a nice cigar, sitting on my porch in the evening. That’s enjoyable.
